New Camaro on the streets

Spotted 10/20/08 in Ann Arbor, east bound on Hill Street just off of Main street;
2009-2010 Camaro, black on black, headlights on as the sun was just starting to come up at 8:00 AM.

Does not look like it weighs two tons like a Challenger. Does not come off as a mid-sized or full sized car like the Mustang.

It's nice, will steal many Mustang people away.

Low to the ground like a sports car.................did I say I like it?

I like it.

Just saw pictures in Car and Driver. Looks like a Challenger to me.

I actually like the Camaro the most of the three, at least in photos. It's modern looking with retro cues, as opposed to being an inflated copy like the Challenger. Independent rear suspension should give it modern handling as well. With the base V6 making 300 HP, it looks to be a fairly capable car.

Yuk ...not that they were attempting to appeal to me anyways.

A fellow car enthusiast at work just ordered herself a new Camaro.

Of course she is getting the SS with the 6.0 engine. The local Chevy dealership must LOVE her right now.

I notice they're still putting that stupid little "GM" badge on all their cars. Does that help or hinder their sales? Every time I see that I think of the POS '80s Oldsmobile wagon that a friend of mine's parents had when I was a kid. It had seatbelts with metal buckles and big GM badges on the release button, I still remember how those damn things would burn me in the summer.

Actually, they've just brought back the GM badges after about 15-20 years of absence. I notice they appear mostly on GM's better cars: Solstice, Corvette, Camaro.

There's nothing wrong with having pride in building something nice.

The 2009-2010 I saw was black, everyone knows that black is slimming.

Even the Challenger looks slimmer in black.

I do like the modern take on the Camaro, the retro aspect is just part of it's appeal.

Look closely, they're on everything. Discrete, but there regardless. They remind me of the total POS GM products that destroyed the company's reputation, not really a reminder of the glory days.

What's the target price range? That will have a lot to do with whether it succeeds or not. Historically the Camaro was always more-or-less pegged to the Mustang in terms of price and performance (or lack thereof).

I'm sure all of the retro pony cars drive and perform well, but I think Ford did the best job with the design of the Mustang... the Challenger and the Camaro are way too "designer funky" for my tastes.

General Motors has priced the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro from $22,995

General Motors has priced the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro from $22,995 — a number that positions it slightly above the base Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger, but still within reach of the same potential buyers. Full pricing details are not yet available, but we’ll have all the numbers later in the week.

With four-wheel independent and StabiliTrak stability control standard, the Camaro will tip the scales at about 3,700 pounds, but is said to have a near ideal 52/48 weight distribution.

Another thoughtful response from GM to the high price of oil and the demands of the marketplace.

If you still hold GM shares...well...I feel your pain.

I think flat black paint on the rockers would help slim the Camaro's appearance.

It is a nice looking car - didn't we see it in the Transformers movie? - though that sort of car is not my speed any more.

Is it really due to all of the modern safety requirements that cars are SO heavy now? The Camaro would have been much more appealing at 3000 lbs. What the heck weighs so much on a 2+2 sports car?

And also, it looks like they didn't do it as a hatch. Weak.

The 4 wheel independent suspension makes it all the sadder that it weighs so damn much.

I'm told that it adds about 1,000 lbs to any car.
