I believe we all make mistakes but I will not validate your poor choices and/or perversions and subsidize the results your actions.

My wife has destroyed every car I have ever purhcased for her. After the last one got messed up, she rolled it over into an expensive late model car that I will be paying for in the coming years, or taking a serious loss on.

I realized that she would destroy it as well, so I rushed out and bought her a cheap DD. She is not allowed to drive the nice car, and recently she hit an orange barrel with the beater, so I feel quite justified.

The car I now own is worth more than my 911 that I reluctantly sold. Am I bitter ? No, but I would by far rather have a 911 that was paid for than a late model SAAB Aero that I owe on.

The real kicker is that it is in my wife's name, and she hasn't worked in almost ten years. OK, so maybe I'm a teensy bit bitter. My wife bought the car while I was at work BTW. I point blank told her not to.
Is there a tactful way to say I'm outta here?

All on the passenger side:
Front wheel bent
front & rear shocks blown (2 yrs old)... said one looked bent?!
sway bar link broken loose
tie rod bent

Both front tires have broken belts

Suspension parts are $734, with shocks all around being the kicker. Maybe I could get away with just doing the passenger side but I'd rather not. Will do the sway bar links & bushings on both sides, they're cheap. Tie rods & ends were new 4 months ago.

I have a set of winter tires on rims ready to go on, so that'll buy me some time to find a deal on tires & the bent wheel.

Update

I'll have to wait an extra week or so for shipping, but by ordering from Pelican it was WAAAAY cheaper:

for $716 (shipped) I got all the parts listed above PLUS:
- left & right engine mounts
- oil & air filters
- acc. belt tensioner spring & pulley
- rear sway bar links

Even with shipping & the low canadian $$, Pelican is a better deal

Jake,

I think someone on page one or two had a good idea: Put the budget for "Unplanned Car Repairs" together with discressionary money for vacations or something she wants to do.
If you can manage to forge a link between those potholes and delaying something she wants to do, she might start finding better roads upon which to drive. (Yes, there are some of those in the Maritimes.)

Good luck, my friend.

Les

Hey Les, good to hear from you!

It's hard to make that argument at this point... at 2pm she left for China for 10 days.

But the upside is that she is very, very careful with money. The cost of this "hit" cut deep. We've come to an agreement that should work itself out over the coming months, much of it thanks to some good advice in this thread

One upside to having to do this work, is it opens up the door for some upgrades. "Heavy Duty" shocks were an obvious choice, looking at sport springs too. And I checked out the price of a good wheel... I wonder what a set of AMG monoblocks would run. Hmmmmmm

Holy hell, over $700 worth of damage from crappy driving?! My wife wouldn't see my keys after that!

As for the monoblocs, DO IT!!! Best wheel for the W210 ever! I've seen nice used sets for $400-500 US.
