If my insurance company knows I'm at the track they will terminate my policy. That's fine with me as I don't want to be paying for other driver's accidents at the track. While I think the track is as safe as the highway, maybe safer, insurance companies see it as high risk behavior. If you think it will cover you at the track you will most likely drive more aggressively and that also could mean with less safety in mind, that puts everyone more at risk.

I know State Farm won't cover accidents on a track but don't feel they would terminate your policy. I bet Geico would.

Buy track insurance for Drivers Ed. For timed / competitive events, you're on your own.

This is news? I thought everyone knew this. DE's used to get around this by strictly prohibiting any timing, so the they could call them "non-competetive" events, or "driving schools". The insurance companies saw through this years ago. I'm not aware of any that do not specifically exclude events where one must wear a helmet, or events taking place on a closed course, or events taking place at a venue that has ever hosted a competitive event. You are on your own, as you should be.

I just call my insurance agent and get DE insurance for the days that I am at the tack. Fairly cheep for the day. I do it mostly for the coverage of bodily injury.
Should something happen I am sure you can talk the track wrecker driver into taking your car off property, flipping it into the side ditch of the state road. A deer jumped out in front of you and you lost control.
I am not trying to encourage insurance fraud, and don't think I am, just talking out loud here.

Everyone should know their standard auto policy does not cover them at the track.

As for having a wrecked car towed off the track to a nearby public road, not likely. Cops and adjusters are not dumb. No skid marks on the road, no furrows in the soil, no damage to the tree that you supposedly hit, a Porsche with five-point harness, within a couple miles of the local track, on a DE day, where there were plenty of witnesses who could be tracked down, some of whom don't approve of insurance fraud - you'd be asking for criminal prosecution.

My auto insurance is from USAA. If I even asked about it, they would cancel my policy !

When I was able to do FATT at Summit Point, my insurance carrier said I was covered in the paddock but not on the track.

This is why I track a 944.

If I do something dumb, and roll it up into a ball, no biggie. It was just a 944.

The Haggerty policy on my 1982 SC had provisions against 'truck pull' types of contests and jumping contests using suspension hydraulics.

This is why you tow it home, and then call them.

After about 80 trackdays I've attended, there was rollover at the track yesterday.

Guy blew the high speed turn, slid off track and nailed the tirewall, moved the k-wall and hit the cyclone fence.

I took some pictures of them moving his car away with the forklift.

Driver and passenger were fine. His BMW was wasted.

Please name an insurance company that sells DE track coverage...

In other news, car insurance won't cover you at a demolition derby.

Hmm, most insurance companys I know of will want to see the police report on any accident that involves any significant dollars.

Nominated for no-brainer of the week. Don't race what you can't afford to wreck.

These insurance fraud tips...

So let's hear some sample 'how it happened'.
Seriously, do you actually think anybody is going to buy your story? There's a thread about being in jail that may interest you...
