If a first rate team to you is the Red Soxs or the Yankees then you can have them. I'll take watching second rate teams.

You're doing better than me. I root for a bottom rate team...Padres :(

I'm not quite as confident about the world domination M21 is talking about, but I also think it is a low blow to call them a second rate team.

I merely pointed out that the Phillies are a young team loaded to the gills with team oriented star quality power hitting players, speed, and dominating young pitchers. It is entirely reasonable to expect that they will contend for years to come. To state that they won't is IMO just sour grapes.

There is nothing delusional about that quote at all, it's really not much more than a statement of the obvious.

Jimmy Rollins sac bunt to score the series winning run was the first time a defending MLB MVP has bunted in a world series game since the 1940s, when Stan "the man" Musial did it.

Utley's fake to first to entice the Rays runner to try and score, so Utley could gun him down, was a brilliant play. Utley really had a damn good series, both offensively and defensively.

That was a phenomenal play, one of the best heads-up plays in a WS I have ever seen.

I was lucky enough to go to 6 of the 7 games in Philadelphia. I agree the team has a young core.

My concern is the loss of the GM Pat Gillick. He has the skill of making the minor deal...Jamie Moyer, Brad Lidge [Brilliant! Closer and starter in 1 deal for a bag of used balls], Romero, Erye [lefties both released], Werth, Feliz, Joe Blanton [raise your hand if you thought the phils would win every game he started], Durbin to name a few...........Stairs, Jenkins, Brunlett [Lidge Deal] and Dobbs to name a few more.....

It was an exciting play-off run.

Agreed...Gillick did a phenomenal job as GM. He will be very hard to replace.

PS: Seahawk, speaking objectively, i have to agree. He totally suckered that poor tampa runner into getting himself pwned at home plate. Utley is one of the players that i'm talking about....fantastic fielder, great hitter, excellent power, and a very shrewd baseball thinker to boot. He is a huge part of the reason why the Phillies are now reigning MLB baseball world champions.

Not to take anything away from Chase, but I dont think that he had a chance to get the runner at first, I think it was Crawford- fast, going toward the middle on a slow batted ball. And the Rays were agressive on the bases all post-season, not surprised that they sent the runner, ballsy. I think they Phills will make a good run again next year, but you can't count on them playing the same exact way, and the same exact outcome. The NL East will be the best division in baseball, again. But the Phills do need to tighten up their starting rotation, can't be that inconsistent next year. I dont think that the Phills were the best team in the post season, but that is why baseball is so special.
And the parade was INSANE. What, something like 2.2 Million people, biggest sporting parade in history?
