How 'bout a World Series Thread?

It's top of the 8th. Phillies lead Tampa Bay 3-2.

This update is brought to you by a life-long Phillies fan. :D

m21sniper 10-22-2008 08:06 PM

LIGHTS OUT LIDGE!!!

3 wins to go! Go phils!

Lothar 10-22-2008 08:11 PM

Phillies take game 1 by the score of 3-2. One more game and the series can move to a real ball park. Baseball in a dome? Tisk, tisk.

DavidB911 10-22-2008 08:12 PM

What? The series is still going?? A couple months ago someone said the Cubs had it locked up. Then about a week or 2 ago someone said the Red Sox won it. Now you guys say its still going??:D

I really hope the Phills take this. They have a great bullpen and really good offense.

m21sniper 10-22-2008 08:12 PM

Lidge is a machine. In all my 35 years of watching baseball, he is having maybe the best season of any Phillies player i can ever remember. 50+ straight saves??? LOL.....LIGHTS OUT!!!

Lothar 10-26-2008 07:36 PM

Game 4 and the Rays are getting crushed. Another Phillies pitcher has earned a win with both his arm and his bat. What a dominant performance after a thrilling Game 3!

Lothar 10-26-2008 07:40 PM

The Phillies are one win away!!! What a performance.

Pazuzu 10-26-2008 07:51 PM

Cubbies are gonna win it this year.

Can the DROUGHT finally be over?!?!?!?!?

ONE MORE WIN TO GO!!!

GO PHILS! :D

Rich76_911s 10-27-2008 08:18 PM

So anyone else feel like the Phils got robbed tonight?

I got to admit I am pretty ticked off right now that they had to go out there and play defense in that slop. While the devil rays will get a perfect field for the 6th inning whenever the game resumes. I'd love to know the reason not to call the game after the phils hit in the 5th inning. Particularly when they weren't going to call it a game without 9 innings played anyway.

Also want to point out I would not want to have seen the Phils win without the game going to 9 innings.

m21sniper 10-28-2008 01:31 AM

The game should have been postponed/delayed the moment Jimmy Rollins had to run around the infield like a keystone cop chasing that pop up all over. The run the Rays scored in the 6th is never scored in 'baseball' conditions because Jimmy Rollins gobbles that ball up cleanly and tosses that 2 out base runner out...the same base runner that scored to tie it when they DID call it.

how come the world series... AINT world series?

which other countries play then ?

The Gaijin 10-28-2008 05:07 AM

The best players in the world play in the US. But that is besides the point..

Why does the season go so long that they are now competing against basketball and hockey?

The World Series should have been weeks ago and played over two weekends and at an hour when children (future potential fans..) can watch.

widebody911 10-28-2008 05:56 AM

Watch baseball? No thanks! It would be more fun to pound my nuts flat with a ball peen hammer and then storyboard A Midsummer Night's Dream in my own blood on the floor.

This is the leagues fault. They string out the early series' that results in these games being played so late. Also, they used to just have a world series after the regular season. Since they have 30 teams now that want to be in the playoffs and the league doesn't want to miss out on possible revenue they have 3 rounds now. 2 rounds seems like a good compromise to me, but i will stop here.

Well I have been watching and I'm going to comment on a few things -

Number one why the 8 pm starts = Two east coast teams - Baseball is short sighted here - hell even the Saturday game was scheduled for 8:00 (which didn't even start till 10:00) in 10 years when baseball wonders where all their fans went because they didn't start at a reasonable time where the kids could watch and become fans.

Number two - The umpires - Good god - do they need to bring instant replay? Missed calls on both sides - if you are going to show the strike zone graph - then follow it. They'd be better off not showing it because all it has done is highlight the inconsistency of the umps in calling strikes. MLB uses it to grade the umps? Give em an F

Number three - the season is too damn long. There's a chance of snow tonight - 40 degrees and raining is not ideal for baseball. My hands were stinging when the players were batting in that crap. diong! Shorten the season - World series should end the beginning of October - end of story.

Number four - baseball should be played outside - yep - they are positioning for a new baseball stadium in Tampa Bay - yep - an outside stadium - STUPIDEST thing I have heard in years - if you don't think it's stupid - and you insist on OUTSIDE baseball - I'd be glad to get you tickets to one of the first Tampa Bay Bucs games of the season. After you bake and I do mean BAKE in the stadium for two hours we can revisit the question. In August here it's even hotter - and it rains EVERY afternoon.

Last comment - the games last night. What a friggin sham - it probably should never been started. I really think MLB was grateful the game was tied so they could postpone it. They didn't want to call the game (which would have ended the world series with the Phillies ahead). The phillies have played better ball. The Rays (not devil rays, just Rays) are a young team - and they have nutted up during the WS - not the same team that won the ALCS. If they get back to being the team that they were and start swing their bats - They will give them a run for their money. From a last to first - and with the lowest payroll in history they have exceed all expectations by just being in the world series.

adrian jaye 10-28-2008 07:44 AM

therefore its not world series then ?

it is the point,
it's not a world series because no other teams in the world play it !

are you saying that players from "all over the world" come to play in the world series ?????

Although the "Fall Classic" as we know it didn't begin until 1903, Major League Baseball had several versions of a post-season championship series before that. In 1884, the Providence Grays of the National League outplayed the New York Metropolitan Club of the American Association in a three game series for what was originally called "The Championship of the United States." Several newspapers penned the Grays as "World Champions" and the new title stuck.
