Connery but I think Daniel Craig is doing an awesome job and probably comes in second. Roger Moore was good but was never a fan of Pierce Brosnan or Timothy Dalton.

Richard Roundtree.
![]() ![]() Seriously: Connery. Has anyone actually read Casino Royale? There was a long write up in the NY Times about how Ian Flemming wrote the Bond series and how Hollywood softened the stories. Bond was a royalist a-hole by some standards.

I've yet to see Craig, who everyone says is a darker, brooding Bond. But Connery, c'mon: who else could say "Pussy" as well as Connery did in "Goldfinger?"

The first two John Gardner books - "License Renewed" and "Icebreaker" were both fantastic. I'm still shocked that they never made a movie for "License Renewed". The latest Bond movie (which I found utterly ridiculous and barely watchable) with Halle Berry and the invisible car had some elements from "Icebreaker" but wasn't really that storyline per-se.
Flemming was a bit out there and kooky, but it's what made Bond...well...Bond.

Sean Connery, but Daniel Craig will become the number one.

You left out: Peter Sellers, David Niven, an American Indian tribe and Chimpanzees from the list.

Sean defined Bond. Well, Bond from a 60s point of view anyway. I think Craig is set to define a more up to date Bond. He is terrific in the role. Everybody in between was just a joke.

I think that James Bond did a good job of playing sean connery.
the rest are just impersonators although, imho, roger moore did a very good job of impersonating him, and I think timothy dalton deserves more credit than the voting would seem like he gets. I've seen casino, and am going to see solace tonight... I'll reserve judgment on craig until then... initial impression is that he is an awesome bad ass good guy, but bond needs more than just bad assedness, he needs style.... connery had style... as for brosnan, well... its hard to judge his acting because the recent movies with him sucked so much
