I looked the first few pictures and though "looks like a pool of deck"... and then... what do ya know!

Definitely cool. How are those concrete footings anchored into the pool bottom Wayne?

That's what I was thinking too!

I hope the supporting structure was engineered to handle about 3 feet of top soil -- 3 feet of packed soil will give pretty good protection from most of the radioactive fallout from most nuclear bombs.

It would be best to probably use the wood structure to support a steel reinforced 12-16 inch slab, then build the rest up with soil.

If I had a backyard like that, instead of a deck I'd probably put in a pool......

Yeah, looks great, but is it sturdy? J/K I'm with the others though on the fascination of the under-deck space.
Seeing the ladder coming from below reminded me of a scene from a Cheech and Chong movie, and that lead me to another thought of a use for the space.

Nice job, not sure why you wanted to fill in your pool; but it's a super looking first class job of doing so. Great outdoor living space! Congrats.

All the stringers kills any possibility of cool use of the underdeck space- but they are necessary.

It is a very unique look on the topside. My folks have surrounded their large in-ground pool on one side with a large stained deck that connects on another level to the main house deck. It is rather elaborate as well. They have more deckspace than they know what to do with.

Cute kid. Make it so you need a screw gun to get the hatch open.
