Wayne's Crazy Deck Project - DONE!!!
After about four months of non-continuous work on this thing, it's finally finished. I'm very proud of how this turned out, especially considering that I've never quite tackled a job this large before. It's about 99% done - there are just a few cleanup things that I need to do on it over the next few weeks. I had some people experienced in construction take a look at the design / construction of the deck, and they think it's way overbuilt, which is great - means I can sleep fine at night. A majority of the deck's supports are sitting on actual little shelves in the concrete that are part of the pool - very, very secure. Oh, for those who didn't see the original thread, I've built a deck inside of a swimming pool:

Now all you need is a small 120v sump pump down there to keep the swamp water from piling up... Great work Wayne, looks nice....

The downstairs is creepy in a "Silence Of The Lambs" kind of way.
I think Wayne's competitors will end up down there.

Gives me an idea.... run some electrical down there... cover the top with dirt and sod.... make a secret entrance... you have the ultimate bunker.....

Looks like an excellent place to store munitions.
![]() The deck looks great. I love the non-orthagonal edges of the wood butting up to the concrete. It gives a nice organic feel to it. Much more visually interesting than a typical circle, oval or rectangle. I know that's mostly driven by the original shape of the pool, but it looks nicer than I thought it would originally. For added accenting you could add a few planter boxes too, but it really did turn out nicely. And yes, that looks pretty overbuilt, which is good. Is there any provision for ventilation under there? Just through the slats (should be adequate).

Wow! Outstanding job. It looks really nice.
I have no doubt that it's way over built. Have you tried parking a 914 or 911 on it? That would be a good test. ![]()

Okay - You need to increase the size of your "tester". Perhaps a few 350 lb longshoreman.
Looks nice. I see a huge potential for storage too. I think flood/flurescent lights down there would make it look 'wicked' at night. Eventually you do need to let the kids swim. ![]()

I saw this and walked on it last week, it is very solid and well-constructed. Great Pelican DIY spirit, I don't think that it would have been possible to hire someone who would have done better. The underneath part is very clean and dry, I immediately thought storage of some kind but, A) it's going to rain here eventually and, B) Wayne is not hurting for space in this house.
![]() Count me among the people who did not think it would come out this well, glad to be proven wrong however.
