Black Friday stupidity

How stupid are some people? I saw this quote in the NYTimes and couldn't believe the stupidity of the person. Then we wonder how so many people got in over their heads with mortgages they couldn't afford.

Link
Quote:
Even for the growing number of parents who were limiting their gift buying to just their children this year, financial troubles were forcing them to be stingy.

''I have never slept here before to save a few bucks, but with the economy so bad I thought that even a few dollars helps,'' said Analita Garcia of Falls Church, Va., who arrived at a local Best Buy store at 7 a.m. Thursday with 10 family members. She bought a Dynax LCD 32-inch TV for $400, slashed from $500, along with an iPod and several DVDs.

''This year a lot of people I know won't be getting Christmas presents. I have to pay the rent and bills, and I have two little ones at home to think of,'' Garcia added.

I did my part to help the economy. I went to Northern Tool and spent over a $1000 on various items (it almost filled up my truck). They had a Black Friday sale which was their lowest prices of the year.

I even bought a welder and some scrap metal, and I don't know how to weld (yet).

I plan to spend more this Christmas than ever before.

"financial troubles were forcing them to be stingy."

HAH! Not stingy enough to just consider NOT BUYING the 32" Flat-Screen TV, though, huh?

Some stores around here had 4 AM 'Doorbuster" specials. 4AM.

Stupid people.

My wife went out early with her mother this morning.

She didn't buy anything.

Did I mention that I love my wife?

I pretty much avoid any public places, as much as possible, on Black Friday. I'm running out of in-house projects, though.

Don't these morons realize that by getting up early and fighting crowds of idiots at all these stores, they're not SAVING anything? They're SPENDING!

I have never and will never set foot within 200 yards of a retail establishment the day after Thanksgiving. I don't like crowds and I don't particularly like people. Forget it. They could be giving away stuff for free and I still wouldn't go.

Instead I'm at home enjoying a nice, freshly-brewed cup of coffee with my cat in my lap and enjoying a slow, stress-free morning. We'll probably go for a drive later to look at a few houses. That's it. Easy, simple, low-key, minimum stress.

My usual budget for Xmas is under $300 every year anyway. I don't believe in making a big production of it.

I like to do my Christmas shopping around the 27th of December, on line, that's when you can find some savings!

Nowadays, it's people buying things they don't need with money they don't have. wait a minute, that sounds like the government!

I'm with you, Jeff.

Except for the whole "cat on my lap" thing.

We are not spending very much this year and have been giving away a little "extra" stuff each week to our local charities.

Hey she likes to sleep there. I actually kinda' like it. It's peaceful. Well, mostly for the cat. I tend to get the occasional claw in the quadracep.

Went to the outlet mall at 10pm last night. Bought a few things at polo and at j. crew. These were clothes that I needed to buy at some point in the near future. Saved about 65% on average. Out of there by 11:15. My friends and I go because we like having fun with crowds. WE tried to start a bidding war for our parking spot. Then we drove past best buy and mocked the people waiting in line. I was yelling "Yea get some deals, consumerism, lets spend us out of the recession." The idiots camping out for 6 hours to save $50 were not amused. I was.

Wal-Mart Worker Trampled to Death

It certainly wasn't a good day for this guy in Nassau Cty , NY. He's not going to be doing any Christmas shopping and all for some stupid toys or whatever!

Screw that. Our local news interviewed a local Best Buy shopper bragging about saving $10 on a hard drive at 5 am. TEN DOLLARS?! If they were giving stuff away, I'd still stay at home. In my opinion, days like today are the worst of humanity on display. No thanks.

My son came with copy's of the Fry's adv for Black Friday, they had some good deals on Laptops, Hard Drives, flat screen monitors, memory, etc He asked me if I wanted to go, so I did this morning at 4:45 for an adventure.

We drove by a Walmart whose parking lot was packed. Got to Fry's and there was a line around the outside of the store with evidence people had spent some time waiting. Once inside, there were more lines going to the departments where the good stuff was. They had 70 notebook computers on sale that sold out in 15 min. All the good stuff was gone in the first 1/2 hour I bet. We only stayed about 20 min, and we didn't buy anything.

We stayed about 20 min at Fry's, didn't buy anything. Went next door to Best Buy, same thing there. My son grabbed the last flat screen there for $129. That's all we got and we were back home at 7am

Next year, I won't even bother to look at the ads. They're not real.
