http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/alms-audi-pulls-out-of-alms/

Saw this today I wonder if there will be customer cars racing?

Word on the street is no customer cars. If you have watched the start-up process of an R10 you'll know why. It's a very expensive car to run.

Guess anything Audi had to prove has been proven...

My predictions are usually wrong, but I think we'll be seeing more people drop out of racing. Not necessarily a bad thing, since I always thought amateur events were more fun.

I was wondering what the repercussions for the ALMS series would be if GM goes under. There go the C5s and the Cadillacs...

I wonder if this has anything to do with Porsche's rumored LM1 effort.

Cadillac pulled out of the ALMS after the 2002 season; we'll see if pulling the plug on the under-development down-a-class Corvette C6 GT2 car will be part of the bailout belt-tightening.

Audi is going to race a brand new R15 V-8 TDI P1 car next year at Sebring and Le Mans, so this isn't about inter-familial issues between Ingolstadt and Zuffenhausen. It's about money and sponsorship. Porsche is doing a single butt-ugly and bog-slow Grand Am "Daytona Prototype" spec car with Penske for 2009 and supporting 4 customer RSR's in the ALMS GT2 category.

It's not just about car-counts. Audi and GM have also helped the American Le Mans Series with marketing and logistics.

+1

My faves are Vintage racing, street car SCCA runoffs, etc. Stuff I might actually have a chance of driving on track.

I predict more fallout at the highest levels.

What is the start-up process? Looks like we might have some pretty empty race tracks i the near future.

Let's just say that they start by pumping warmed oil through the engine at about dawn every time that they're going to run it...

That's pretty much true of all race engines, from street stocks to F1.
