Ruger Mark III questions

My only issue with the Ruger is the heavy clip spring which makes loading a painful experience. The Browning is easier to load.

I think Butler Creek makes a little plastic dealie that provides a ledge for your thumb to depress the magazine spring. I've got 3 or 4...They also make a mag loader for you 10-22 guys. Turn a knob and it collates and loads mags. I'll see if I can find mine and take a picture...

At least on the Mark II (don't remember what the Mark III magazines look like), there is a nub attached to the magazine follower. I just lower it all the way and drop the bullets in one by one. The Mark II is one of the few magazine-fed guns I own that I don't have some sort of a loading tool for.

I had one of these peashooters, bought used for $200. Eventually grew bored punching tiny holes in paper targets I could hardly see at the end of the range.

I resold it, and the same $200 bought me a used 12 gauge pump with which I shoot trap. Hell of a lot more gun for the money. I can't describe the satisfaction of obliterating a fast-moving airborne target. The punishing thunderclap and mule kick to the shoulder reflect the awesome power of this terrible weapon. And if you're worried about home invasions, 9 out of 10 paramilitary nutjobs will endorse a buckshot loaded Wingmaster as primary protection.

As others have said, Excellent gun. Get the bull barrel. Had two; first stolen by a relative.
A competition trigger is a good addition.
Very accurate. I can skip a can across a field with this gun easily. The can barely hits the dirt before the next round sends it flying farther down range.

For the ruger pistols, a empty 45 or 44mag case works well. Of course, HKS (speedloader folks) make a little rubber thingie that goes over the top and locks the mag full down for loading also. Paid $4 for one at a shop known to massively inflate prices.

For the 10/22, I have a few 10 round mags and 1 BC 25 rounder. Daughter knows how to load 'em so I have her do it the day before I go to the range.

i agree about the shotgun fun and protection power

but, i think handguns are just more fun to play with for target shooting at paper targets which is what i wanna do at the moment

and i see the ruger as a gateway gun and plan to collect a bunch more once i get comfortable with this one

I have a US (Olympic) Shooting Team commemorative Mk II and it is a real gem. It goes to the range with me every time, regardless of what else I bring, just cuz it is so easy and fun (and cheap) to shoot.

well, this thread got me thinking about the bull barrel

i was initially liking the regular barrel because of its similarity in style to german Lugers

but the bull barrel is growing on me

Hi Scott. Keep us posted on what you buy and progress your've made. I'm in a similar situation (after a loooong) probationary period here in New Zealand) and will buy a 22 until I get comfortable with it, then a 9mm or a 45ACP.

an interesting point NO JUAN has brought up is the fact for the measley ass sum of $75 bucks you can have EITHER a BULL BARREL or a REGULAR BARREL THREADED!!!!!!!!!

yepper for 75 bucks and whatever thread you choose you can get yer FFL TAX STAMP and OWN A SUPPRESSOR!!!!

and if none of you have ever had that experience i promise out you are missing out on something that is about more FUN THAN SEX and LASTS A HELL OF ALOT LONGER!

so ya got $75 bucks in threadwerk und a thread protector mit der knurl on it.

$200 bucks or more for a suppressor(major malfunction.com can steer ya thru the abyss).

and another $200 bucks for yer FFL suppressor stamp.

go talk to local johnny law at the cop shop, have him sign docs in triplicate and a coupla 8x10 glossys of you with pictures and arrows looking and feeling yer best and WONDER OF WONDERS IN ABOUT 2-3 MONTHS ya get this funny looking stamp bigger than hell that says yer an OFFICIAL U.S.SUPPRESSOR OWNER!

and then the FUN BEGINS!

as i have studied this as well as shot these they are more fun than a barrel of minkies.

in my collection i have porpoisely purchased bull barrels for ease of threading and no lost length of barrel. standard barrel you loose some length in threading process.

so i do the above as mentioned go thru paperwerk, buy suppressor, get ffl stamp, have all THREE BULL BARRELS threaded THE SAME! and i can slap that suppressor on any of those 3 weapons for a hell of a good time without bothering NO JUAN!

also in my infinite WIZ-DUMB i have only purchased 9mm's and .45's of similar design ie. beretta m-9, hk's, springfields that are easily threaded for once again the same reason. i get all of the same caliber threaded buy one suppressor, get tax stamp for each caliber suppressor, and I AM LEGAL BEAGLE!

and all yer ever gonna hear.............is PFFFFFFFT!

Just out of curiosity: What does it take for you to get a license?

Here in South Carolina I can walk in any gun shop and buy today. Instant back ground check. I just took Concealed weapons course. That takes 3 month background and then I can carry concealed.

if yer referring to a license to purchase a suppressor, it is not. it is a STAMP! just like a usps stamp but BIGGER!

go to major malfunction.com and they can walk you thru over the web the basic requirements to possess a SBR, a suppressor, or a machine gun.

most everyjuan thinks its a big deal, it really isnt as long as you have been a good lil boy or girl most of yer life.

and you have no charly manson,jim jones, wayne gacy, bonnie and clyde aspirations. they get kind of uppitty about thangs like that.

waiting times for a sbr, suppressor, machine gun vary from state to state. arizona with a CCW license is about 3 months from the time you submit papers and have yer audience with local cop shop. if im not mistaken i get to meet "SHERRIF JOE" in person for mine. ought to be a hell of a good time since i played football with his #2 dave hendershott and his #3 larry black at brophy college prep here back many many moons ago.

.22 suppressors are only about $199 bucks on the low end and they go up from there. but the beauty of it is if yer smart and purchase weapons conducive to threading their barrels you can own (1) tax stamp for suppressor, own (1) suppressor and switch it around from weapon to weapon as my example of the ruger (2) .920 bull barrels and my fluted stainless bull barrel ruger 22/45. so (1) suppressor fits (3) weapons.

you will have to get another stamp-$200, a suppressor $200 +, and the weapon for another caliber. ie . .22 has its own suppressor, 9mm gets its own suppressor, .45 gets its own suppressor.

example: $200 stamp for .22, $200 plus for suppressor, plus threading barrel

$200 stamp for 9mm, $200 plus for suppressor, plus threading barrel

$200 stamp for .45, $200 plus for suppressor, plus threading barrel.

one time deal on tax stamp for each suppressor. this goes to your grave unless you sell it.

drawbacks:

1) difficult to sell not liguid. new purchasor must comply with all FFL laws and pass background before you handing over possession of suppressor to another person. must go from you to ffl to new purchasor PERIOD! no behind the bar, wood shed sales.

2) if yer caught in a state w/crappy gun laws with a sbr, machine gun, suppressor YOU ARE FEDERAL AND STATE TOAST! see ya for a few years .

3) YOU CANNOT POSSESS A SUPPRESSOR/SBR/MACHINE GUN IN ANY STATE HUNTING! EVER!

4) if yer lokal bank is robbed and the dumbass blonde bimbette airhead teller says to the cops...." he or they had (fill in the blank) a SBR, SUPPRESSOR, A BLACK EVIL MACHINE GUN, the fbi agent is gonna walk to his crown vic trunk, pull out laptop and search a 50 mile radius for sbr, machine gun, suppressor owners and pay YOU A VISIT BE IT 8AM or 3AM looking for that weapon and YOU BETTER HAVE IT! and they dont care WHO YOU ARE! they wanna see that weapon NOW! god HELP YOU IF SHOTS WERE FIRED AND YOUR WEAPON/SUPPRESSOR IS DIRTY! and you have GSR(gun shot residue on you). then the LOOOOOOONNNNNGGGG TALK BEGINS and you will be late fer werk.



5) you cannot loan these toys out ever. friends may use while you are standing next to them out in dezert or at range.
