ok, i am having crazy thoughts about my car hobby.
smog requirements are going to only get more strict.
i have been (quietly) thinking about selling the 911 and buying an early bronco. i could get a 71-ish early bronco, and just shoe-horn a tune port injection motor into the thing with little fuss. no smog issues, relatively cheap, and in the end i get to satisfy my wrenching needs. once done, it would match my other hobby of bow-hunting better. i know the bronco fairly well. my brother has a 71 that we put together. all he needs is final paint and he is good to go. the bronco shares the same fanatical following our beloved 911's experience, so me posting up a, "wtf is this, and how do i fix it?" thread would be easy. when my wife got laid off a few weeks ago, and announced her desire to go back to school, my multi-car hobby dreams evaporated. thoughts? too, "onewhippedpuppy" like? ![]() cliff

install a new 997 direct injection motor into your 911 - that has the added benefit that it will keep you off the streets at night for some time... |

I can't do one thing forever, I don't know about you. But, if you decide to sell you 911, prepare for a long process at this time of year and with the economy. Prepare to get less than expected.
I think we are sort of frozen at the moment. |

If it were a Long Hood 911 I would think you are nUTZ to get rid of it for a Bronco. BUT a 81 SC wgafk.
welcome to FORD...

one suggestion would be to buy an early roller, strip, paint it, and then move the motor/transmission/suspension from the SC and over to the longhood. You have multiple variations along the way, RS/S/RSR, etc. as well as DD vs. DE vs. track intent.
I've had an old Bronco. Great fun to look at.

Until Obama and the EPA supersede CA requirements and ban all pre-2000 vehicles entirely.

Cliff,
If you determine that an early Bronco is it for you - there's a fella here in town who is quite well known in that area. It's Tom's Bronco. He's got a website and normaly has about 10 to a dozen early trucks there and every part you can imagine to restore or modify them... http://www.tomsbroncoparts.com/ angela

Your SC is paid off. It'd be a shame to sell it for 2/3 what you paid for it. You know I think about selling mine all the time but the thought disappears when I see one on the road. I kick myself everytime I walk in my garage and see my baby still on jackstands.

Vash, there IS life after P-cars...but some will treat you as an outcast, or a heritic. Thankfully, few of those reside here in O.T.

I wont treat you as an outcast if you GIVE me your SC. I mean it is just a lowly little SC that is worthless.

On the other hand, those with 944's ARE outcasts...

Since you're in California I would get a 75 or older 911 and not have to deal with smog period. That's what I did. Good luck whatever you decide, but I would never get rid of the Porsche.

Cliff!
I told you I had a truck!?!? First of all, you are not married to the SC. If you want to do something else, you should. You can always get another 911 later. I have changed cars at onewhippedpuppy rate for a while and there is nothing wrong with it. I was wrenching at the speed of light at that time, and just going through the stuff fast. If you really are looking for a hunting rig, you have to think about getting to your hunting spot. The early Bronco is a great vehicle once you are in the outdoors, but it is a pain to drive it there. Unless you only hunt close by or tow it to the woods, I would go with something a little more modern. 5 hours on an interstate in an early Bronco? Have fun ... Of course I am biased, but you should look at a clean late full size Bronco (OJ style). You don't want to have your wrenching vehicle be the one you take into areas where you end up with a two day hike if you get stuck ... Time we get you a rifle ... George |
