My wife couldn't resist... she bought a Shamwow.

Compared to a high end micro fiber towel from Care Care Products or Pelican, it's a so so product. No doubt it will suck up some major liquid, but the MF towel does a better job of the final, streak free dry.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Been thinking about buying one. I figured it's made in Germany so it has to be pretty decent.

My wife did the same. It seems closer to the Absorber products I have than a micro fiber towel. Kind of a sponge in sheet form.

I got some at the Delmar gun show last weekend after the lady selling them let me try the liquid on the piece of carpet trick like that dork on TV does. I was shocked to see it really did suck up the water from even under the carpet! The fibers were still real damp but I would guess a fan would dry the stuff out quickly?!

I have one of those absorber things, was like $10 at Kragen, don't know if it is made in Germany. I do the final drying with terry towel on the car

Seems like that would be a handy item if you had kids and carpeting

I watched the same rehearsed demo at the motorcycle show. Cheap, open, hardbacked carpet is the apparent reason that the fluid wicks up and into the towel. Do this with a common terry towel and I bet you get the same results. Remember, there is no carpet pad under there in the demo. Just a good gimmick.

BTW, I crack my wife up when I do "Vince's" routine,

"You must order in the next five minutes because we can't do this all day." Yeah, buddy. They been doin' it for a year.

I was picking up a few last minute stocking stuffers for the kids last night at Walgreens, and the guy in front of me was buying a stack of them. I've been using the non-"as seen on TV" version for years. They're just "swimmer's towels" which you can pick up at REI. Took it as my one and only towel when I backpacked through China and Tibet for a month.

I personally would not buy one of them, just due to the guy on the commercials. He reminds me of some of the typical "carnies" has the same appearance and mannerisms, almost to the point of being the dealer in a three card monte scam.

At the Washington State Fair, I tend to buy one of those unbelievable
items as a tip, if the carnie has done his job well and provided me with a modicum of entertainment, and if it is something that I can conceivably use sometime in the future. And because it is the Fair, there are several carnies to evaluate and choose from.

Best,

Tom

I wen't to a pca sponsored auto detail clinic.

Ever since, I mist my car with detail spray and then blow dry with the electric leaf blower. After that, a micro-fiber towel over the entire car. Absolutely nothing works better than this - try it.

If you KNEW the mark up on these, I think you'd find your "modicum" of entertainment more expensive minute by minute than the Mustang Ranch!

LOL
Milt - I can't think of anything potentially more expensive than Mustang Ranch! if you get my meaning.
With the carnie, I have the option to walk away for free (without STD's and a divorce), and, since I feel I am paying for the entertainment only, I know the cost ahead of time, and the doo-dad is essentially free.

Best,

Tom

Hmmm

My wife bought the shamwow....so here's our take....

We did an experiment.... we took a measuring cup and put 1 cup of water in 2 bowls.
We then timed how long it would take to empty the bowl, one with the shamwow one with paper towels. Paper towels lost, and dripped water.

Now, the other part..... our shamwow has a hole in it after about 1 month of use. So, quality is not there.

Oh, and as a stocking stuffer / gag gift I got my wife the Snuggie! I ordered it a few weeks ago and still don't have it...so no info...

True story on the Snuggie -

My son's school district has an annual "Amazing Inventions" competition. It is sponsored by a bunch of companies, including one of the local big patent law firms.

My son won 1st in his division with a detachable light for a skateboard (powered by a generator attached to the wheels).

One of the other division winners was . . . the Snuggie! It was invented by an elementary school girl.

The patent firm of course got involved, I think they did the patent work on it. Probably took a big cut of it, too.

We have a rule at my house:
if they try to sell a product on tv, we don't but it. Ever.
