Used clothing restrictions? Shaun--you out there, buddy?

My wife sells outfits online and was told by a customer of hers that after February 10, any clothing without a tag indicating that the garment is non hazardous cannot be sold or even given away. She also told her that garage sales, thrift stores, and Goodwill, Salvation Army could not take garments anymore because of the new restrictions. It doesn't make a he## of a lot of sense to me but I told her I would ask the Pelican brain trust. I found an article regarding lead paint and new PPM laws but read nothing about clothes. http://www.cpsc.gov/ABOUT/Cpsia/faq/faqs.html Is this lady a dingbat or did something get by us consumers. I realize you deal in only new but , being in the industry, I was hoping you could help. Thanks in advance,

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-thrift2-2009jan02,0,2083247.story You can thank the free market, free trade boys for the original origin of this problem. The overseas market doyens do not care whom they sicken, maim, or kill. It makes no long-term sense to import such low-value items (they're excessively marked up by the time they go on retail) as infant and child clothes and toys from half-way around the world ("clipper ship" rule). | ||

Wayne, here's a sample email typical of the MANY I've been getting: Please take the time to help us get the law revised. Today is the last day to get your comments in to the CPSC If you don't believe me...please look at these web sites http://coolmompicks.com/savehandmade/ http://www.boutiquecafe.com/home/2008/12/17/1943/ http://nationalbankruptcyday.com/ http://www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/info.aspx Thank you for taking the time... We love safe toys and clothes. Pass this on to everyone you know...this is way to important.

It's starting to roll now, fellas. My wife contacted the local ABC affiliate and they interviewed her about the topic. ABC12 out of Flint might have it on the website later. (No, I wasn't able to give a shout out to the Pelicans as I wasn't around for the interview.) Hopefully, those in Washington will get word of the problem and listen up. She also contacted our state reps. EDIT: http://abclocal.go.com/wjrt/story?section=news/local&id=6591613

Oh that's just @#$#$#@ great.... With the economy like it is, a thrift store is a great place to shop for me (who has been losing weight) and for the kids who are growing. Now that is going away. Just great. angela
