Markus, it certainly isn't obvious that Engish isn't your first language. I woudn't be able to get past the home page of a Swedish forum. Correction: I wouldn't be able to find a Swedish forum!

Respect, Bra!

edit: 1.51 ppd here. I guess I still have a life.

Evidently your goal is to have the best command of idomatic American English, and the deepest understanding of contemporary American psychology, of anyone in Sweden.

There is a wealth of knowledge here, you are one of them, Markus. As for myself, I like to listen, and in these types of instances, read.

There is no possible way I could give back as much as I have taken while perusing pelican.

I am with Marcus and Stijn.

I read Pelican OT daily and, even though I don't post nearly as much as any of them, the Pelican experience for me is invaluable. I improve my English, get hold of the latest news and trends, get movie reviews before they come out here in Spain, learn the differences between 9mm and 45 caliber, and so on.

I also began in the technical forums but, since I don't own a garage and have found a nice and competent mechanic, OT is the forum I mostly go.

I also tied some Spanish forums (I am somewhat active in a couple of them) but the atmosphere is different. This is the best by far!!

Accents in Spanish are in fact quite simple once you know how to pronounce the words. Just 3 simple rules and that's it.

French accents on the other hand, I have found to be much more complicated.

Anyway, I must admit that it helps learning them as a child

Pelican News Central. How true. Happens to me all the time too.

-Did you hear the latest news this morning!!

-Yup. Read it on Pelican yesterday.

What do 1 guy from Holland, 1 guy from Spain, 1 guy from France, 1 guy from England, 1 guy from Sweden and some 40 000 Americans have in common?

Marcus, methinks (hehehe) we should do a (ultimate?) European Pelican gathering. Maybe in Stijn's new home which is conveniently located halfway

once i'm moved ( i think 3-4 months) , sure thing

It's a small place, so no real guest rooms, but i'm sure we can fab up something in the garage for you lot..bring Porsches, the roads here are great fun if you know where to go... Free flame job for the first one to arrive
plenty of stuff to see as well, war stuff WW1 locally, WW2 just across the border with France(10 minutes),
Bruges is 45 minutes away, so is Ghent...Don't bring beer, that's one thing you need not import to Belgium, there's more beer here then you could possibly drink

Thanks Livi, your post is a compliment to our PPOT community and I whole heartidly agree with you. We started off exactly the same, my old '74 required alot of PP tech help; which I surely received. Since then I've always had this sense of loyalty with a desire to give back somehow too.

I have learned alot about people from the posters here and I've made some friends along the way. I really am more of a lurker than a poster (or poser like some here?), but I've been here lurking for 8 years now, still hangin in there.

I'm a legend in my own mind most of the time; then I get grounded when I come here; ha, ha.

Good idea!

There should be a few more Europeans that might be interested. At least a couple from Scandinavia, England and France.

"The Gathering"!

You are right, Stijn. Very prudent. We have a traditional Christmas beverage in Sweden called "Svagdricka". It basically translates into Weakdrink. I can bring a few cases for the 'mericans.

I thought I saw it all till I hung with Germans in Ibeza. Beer is routinely served to the family table at breakfast. It was same beer that was served at lunch and dinner to everybody.

Even the heavy vodka drinking Russians got a laugh out of that.

used to get funny looks from the Brits @ Gran Canaria, while they were having breakfast at 10 by the pool, still dazed and confused from the night before, and i arrived calling out to the barkeep, "Hola Jorge, Una grande Garda por favor !!"

Couldn't do it anymore, getting to old for that kind of crap, i may be 32, but my liver is probably 45...

He, he. That was always the typical Swedish tourist style in the Canaries and Mallorca. Hanging on the lock to the bar at ten o´clock, wearing a t-shirt saying " Today 101 Swedes will catch Chlamydia".

it was at a place where there were swedes and norwegians

heavy drinking at departure, during flight, get of the plane at 22h00
drop gear off at hotel at 23h30
crash Snoopy's bar at 24h00
02h00: Hi, i'm Anna, i'm from norway do you want to dance?

*Don't mind if i do*

Anna didn't work out, she had a minger girlfriend, and my mate shamelessly failed his duties as wingman...To bad, She was a fit little minx

Then things get blurry, and i wake up, day one, 11h00 on the balcony in the blazing sun with my forehead that's burnt, good for picking scabs the rest of the week...
