Enterprise vs. Galactica - who would win?

Enough of the heavy talk for a bit. Came across this bit of banter on the Scifi.com website and it got me thinking... What do you guys think?

Usually you see Star Wars vs Star Trek arguments...never seen a BSG vs Star Trek one before. :-P /geek mode on I am only a "trekkie geek" in passing, but Star Trek ships have shields, phasers, and warp capable torpedoes with "quantum" warheads, whereas BSG has no shields, gunpowder based guns, and sub-light nukes. It also seems that BSG would have zero means to defend itself from transporter based assault teams beamed over from the star trek ship. /geek mode off.

Maybe true, but they'd have to get within transporter range. Galactica has Vipers and Raptors to engage the enemy from a distance... And they have (or had) that stealth Viper. I think all Enterprise ever had was a couple of shuttles. I'm thinking this one's not so simple.

I'd say it depends on which enterprise...the captain could be pivitol here.

Galactica of course Those phonetically synthesized voices of the Cylons were awesome! Gee, I guess that's my only reasoning?

Oooh tough call. I agree, it depends which Enterprise it is. NC-001 or whatever the number for Kirks was, didn't have any computers on it, just flashing blinking lights, and Spock pretty much just looked into a desiel boat type sonar viewer looking thingy, so I would guess the Gallatica would win. On the other had, the NC-001 aparently had ton's of disposable crewmen, since they seemed to lose one or two of them an episode. Wow, good geeky question.

The Enterprise of Picard fame would be too busy drafting resolutions with his staff while hailing the enemy on all frequencies, meanwhile counselor Deanna Troy would be sent over to talk about everyone's feelings. BSG would blast them out of existence, the battle would be resolved in the last 5 minutes of the show.

Transporter range is stated in TNG as 50,000 kilometers. (Main Phaser range is also approx 50,000km in TNG) I don't think this would be much of a problem because of the Enterprises ability to suddenly drop out of warp exactly 50,000km away and start beaming assault teams directly onto the BSG bridge and main engineering spaces while simultaneously unloading with all it's phasers, which cannot be intercepted. I also don't see what BSG could do to defeat the Star Trek ships shields. Quote:
All of the guns in BSG fire conventional shells, including the sidearms and rifles. In one episode they have to get armor piercing ammo to deal with boarding cylons, if you recall. The guns on the vipers are often seen being loaded with 20mm(ish) linked ammo. So it stands to reason that the defensive batteries of BSG also use gunpowder era technology (though rail guns are certainly a possibility). I dunno, i just see the enterprise launching a spread of quantum torpedoes(which travel at warp 9+) at the BSG from about 10,000,000 kilometers away and enjoying the ensuing light show as BSG is vaporized. I read somewhere once that a single quantum torpedo has a fantasy yield in the vicinity of 100 megatons. A single one would vaporize Nebraska. The Neo BSG galactica does not have any shields, but does have heavy armor. /geek mode disengaged LOL. (I have now put way too much thought into all this, and well and truly feel like a geek, lol) PS: The Wrath of Farrakhan skit is hillarious!~ Oh, btw, on the subject of Battleships vs Carriers, it would be interesting to see what a truly modern battleship task force could do vs a carrier taskforce. With VLS a modern BB could carry hundreds and hundreds of cruise missiles, and dozens of stealthy UAVs. Would be a neat scenario to wargame. Last edited by m21sniper; 01-15-2009 at 08:53 PM..
