Thanks Mr. Schwarzenegger, whats next? Taking a ***** tax?

Calif. governor wants to tax golf, auto repairs
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Golf course owners and some of their customers are teed off at Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. So are veterinarians, auto mechanics and amusement park operators.

Their anger is directed at the Republican governor's proposal to extend the state sales tax to cover more services, an idea that has surfaced in other states as they race to plug crippling budget deficits. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a research clearinghouse, predicts such deficits nationwide could reach $350 billion by 2011.

In California, Schwarzenegger wants to help close a nearly $42 billion budget deficit by taxing rounds of golf, auto repairs, veterinary care, amusement park and sporting event admissions and appliance and furniture repairs.

No labor is taxed in CA, but the parts and supplies are. I don't see why entertainment can't be taxed. But, if he is gonna tax the vets, he better tax the docs too.

Right now there's no tax on a haircut or beauty shop. He's got a lot of possibilities.

Why doesn't the Fed govt simply print up $100 billion (a relative drop in the bucket) and send it to California?

And you talk about tax and spend liberals........

If the fed printed up an extra 100billion the value of the dollar would go in the crapper.

No... It was 'taxation without representation' that was the problem.

It was the representation part that was mostly the issue.

Meaning people that we didn't vote for, that we had no control over, that we couldn't vote out of office (the King) were taxing us. He would levy taxes without any discussion with us.

In fact, after we were our own nation, we actually taxed ourselves (on some things) at a greater rate than the Brits did.

And CA is bankrupt... they have to do something.

you guys in cali have it easy...on average Nj residents pay 2 times the next highest tax levy.... Buck up, you had it easy compared to us. Now it is a race to see what state goes bankrupt first...cali or NJ (i bet NJ)

Well, we had to pay for our own war. When the Brits were taxing us, we were paying for their war.

Anyway. We are not supposed to be directly taxed. A little less than 100 years ago, someone slipped in an amendment to go after the rich guys...and everything else is history.

The funniest/saddest part, the original amendment was supposed to have a 10% cap. It was removed, since no one thought they could EVER get near a 10% income tax. In less than 10 years, the top rate was 90%!

And the thing to remember is this: The 16 amendment didn't allow taxation of income. That was already allowed. But Tax had to be proportional to population.

God forbid they ever consider cutting spending. Nope, just raise revenue to match - the way it's always been and always will be.

As long as the state legislature keeps sepnding like drunk sailoirs on leave, the taxes and debt will continue to climb.

All I can say is I'm not one of the idiots who voted for these "progressive" lawmakers.

Us New Jersey taxpayers have to fork up $750,000 to pay a recently retired school administrators retirement package.

Yep, 3/4s of a Million dollars. $500,000 of which is in paid, unused sick and personal days. Now we have to fork up the money for the attorney generals investigation into this fiasco.

Plus our wonderful governer has just said that our tax rate will go up , because the feds are not giving the state any money. We already have the highest property tax rate in the country.

They already have that - if you factor in the sewer fees that a lot of counties tack on top of the property tax bills (some call it a "water reclamation surcharge" or similar stuff to get around the 1% property tax limit passed in the 1970s). Oh, and the sales tax on toilet paper (for those of us that use it - I've met some of you guys!)...

Yep. I figure each dookie I make costs about $0.10 or so.
