For sale: Unmolested, "really REALLY clean car" (Porsche 914)

I LOL on how things like "unmolested" and "really REALLY clean" can mean so dramatically different things to different people.

To wit, read this ad, visualize in your mind what the car looks like from the description, then click on the ad:

I have a 1973 2.0 Porsche 914 that is unmolested. The car runs and drives like it should. All the lights work, all the gears work, all the interior is there. I think it has 148K original miles. Speedometer goes to 180. Really REALLY clean car.

OK, now visualize what you think the car looks like . . .

Then click the ad:

1973 2.0 Porsche 914 - UNMOLESTED

I've bought much worse!

Seriously, though, $1000 at Macco would make that thing look nice. And fixing the battery tray and support.

WTF do the 914 guys think a bungee cord is an acceptable battery support?

I'm selling my 914/6. There were a few rust bubble under the paint, so I've gone in and fixed them all, along with all of the rock chips over the past 6 years. Afterwards it's going to get a good base/clear paint job. I cannot believe what people try to sell.

And my 914/6 IS clean, and well documented since I've owned it.

I dont know...he does state that its a perfect resto canidate. I dont think hes trying to pull one over on anyone, how could he? 'Unmolested' and 'really clean' is probably a poor choice of words though.

therein lies the issue: from the advert, i was expecting an original condition 914 with the usual age related issues of paint and so forth. instead, the pictures show a ratty 914 needing a complete restoration.

I think he meant "unrestored" and "original paint."

"Speedometer goes to 180." The seller must really be Nigel Tuffnell.

Depending on the actual rust situation it's not a bad car. Battery box rust in 914s can exist w/o any other salt related corrosion on the body or chassis. It does seem fairly unmolested in terms of racer boy modifications or original parts missing. It would be better if the OG steering wheel and shift knob were there, steering wheel is easy but shift knob in good cond. is a tough find.

If it has the orig. fuel injection in working order as opposed to carbs, that would be a big +. A '73 2.0 is a very desirable 914, I had one in 1976 w/ 28k miles on it. If it was priced right and I was in the market, I'd be very interested.

Rear Porsche lens from a 911 with solonoid trunk opener, cut door panels, wrong mirrors, non original steering wheel and shift knob is not unmolested.
Rusted out battery tray (and most likely hell hole), broken trunk hinge, badly cracked dash (or why else would he have the rug cover), ripped seats and dirt everywhere is not really really clean.

Is it bad, no probably not. At least he has pictures to show the true condition; that's a real positive right there.
