This thread inspired me to create a poll.

Modern cars...

I know those are extreme choices, but respond as best you can.

Please save the Nadar-ism and other political content for PARF.

Thanks!

Well since both the cars I drive regularly have no airbags and I feel no need for em I would say the MPG. I have a feeling that is what the poll will end up showing as well.

MPG. Not to mention, the gene pool could use a good cleaning.

Just today. Not too sad about the driver, but about the kids and the people in the other car. Still feel the same?

Your point is? Tragic for the kids, but I doubt any number of airbags would have saved them. There's only so much rapid deceleration that the body can take, airbags or not.

No airbags in the Land Cruiser, it really doesn't bother me. I don't know anyone saved by an airbag, but I do know several people that were injured when their airbags deployed in a minor accident.

My comment was more about the gene pool. The on-coming driver was innocent, really bad timing for them.

MPG. I think airbags are overrated. I've seen some of the faces post airbag - what's left of the faces.

I also drive a car with no airbags. It does worry me sometimes, when I think about the tin can I'm driving in (91 CRX), but it just reminds me to be more vigilant in my driving. The tech is out there. Here's one guy getting pretty close(65+ and pushing 70):

Airbags can cause a lot of injuries themselves, especially in 1997 and older MY vehicles.

Gee...I wonder if the people on a sports car forum will go for more weight or less weight?

Ask this question on a MB forum (or a Hummer forum, or a Honda forum, or Chevy forum), and I suspect you will get a different answer.

This is where "just the driver" should have air bags and be forced to survive. Then, after we stone her, she gets to live out the rest of her life in jail thinking about what she did.

I do, my father in law. Coming home from work, crossing a bridge over a freeway, 2-lane undivided highway, a pedestrian darted out into traffic and, trying to avoid him, 2 cars had a head-on collision with the pedestrian in the middle. My FIL was fine, but credits the airbag with saving his life, or at least very serious injury. Too bad for the pedestrian cars don't come with airbags on the outside.

edit: leaning toward MPG being more important, but it's a tough call.

I'm voting against fuel efficiency. If everyone were driving around in 80mpg cars, it would be more or less impossible to break 40 mph. There would be no need for that many airbags.

That's a no brainer. Unfortunately 99.9999% of the population think they are the most important person on earth and therefore must survive everyone else.
