Pool Open yet?

Water temp hit 74 today. It's 88 degrees as per the reading on the side of the house. The official outside temp is 85.3 right now.

I think I'm going to have to open the pool this week!

Just got back from kayaking. Man the water was rough as the wind was blowing on clear lake!

Just cleaned the cover, and I'm starting to adjust the water chemistry. I'll have it swimmable by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Water temp in Corpus Christi Marina is 68. This afternoon I loaded up all the gear to dive the boat and scrape barnacles from the prop and bottom. Will drive in tomorrow and do the deed.

This is definitely wet suit water temps and that first plunge into the water definitely gets your attention.

The water temps in the inside pools I worked in college were always 72 F. Anything over 65 is warm enough for laps. I like 80 these days. 74 means I'm going to do laps this week!

Of course, I'll have to keep the cover in place when not in use. But this is pretty early for swimming!

Our pool is open year round. (Our black lab swims EVERY day). It's nice and blue, just not warm enough for us converted southerners. Up north, this would be swimming temp. (69), now that we have lived in Florida since 97 that is WAY tooo cold. The wife and I like 80s....

Mine's open but the water is only ~70, still a little chilly for me. The young 'uns like it though.

My daughter was in ours today while I worked on the boat - it's still a little nippy for me though

Why would you close it, living in Texas? Does it ever get much below 60 there? I mean, aside from freak cold snaps it's always warm/hot, isn't it?

Mine is never really closed, I just don't balance the pH or clarify it in the winter, when the air and water temps are too low.

Yeah, since I moved back to Texas, I like 80+ water.

Daytime or night time? Winter in the daytime is 65 (18) or so. Night time is usually above 40, but we normally get frost a few times a year. We have had frost more than 20 times this year, starting in late October. Very unusual and cold winter.

I keep the solar cover on in the winter mostly to keep dirt out of the pool.

Wow, I'm really surprised. I always thought Texas was just the cool side of India! I guess we assume it's always hot there like you guys assume it's always cold here

Depends on what part you are talking about. S. TX has brutal summers and very mild winters with the occasional freeze. N. TX has brutal summers and winters can get quite cold with sleet, snow and ice not unusual. Winter in the panhandle (Lubbock, Amarillo) is very similar to Kansas and Nebraska winters.

You mean it's not always cold in Ontario ??

The economy is SO bad...poor folks in SoCal can barely afford to heat their swimming pools...

The weather was changing here today...first a light snow, then slush, then hail.
I love living in the Willamette Valley of Orygun, I really do...

There were snowmobiles racing on my pool this weekend, it might be a few more days until I can open mine...
