New U.S. F1 team!? With American drivers!?
Not sure if anyone has posted this, but in case they haven't, check out this story from SpeedTV.com:
http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-united-states-set-for-new-f1-team/ "F1: United States Set For New F1 Team?Written by: SPEED Staff / GMM 02/04/2009 - 06:44 PM Charlotte, NC A new Formula One team is under wraps in America and set to be launched officially later this month, according to several outlets on Wednesday. The team, whose logo can be previewed at usf1.com, is fronted by F1 stalwart and broadcaster Peter Windsor, and American Ken Anderson, of Indycar and NASCAR fame but also former Ligier technical director. Briton Windsor, 56, is best known today as the pitlane contributor for SPEED's Formula One broadcasts, but he has previously worked as team manager for both Ferrari and Williams, winning the world title with the latter in 1992. The website of British magazine Autosport, along with the German website motorsport-total.com, said USF1 intends to make its Grand Prix debut in 2010, and already has the blessing of F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone. The team will have the slogan 'Made in America' and be headquartered in the heart of NASCAR country in Charlotte, North Carolina. Reportedly, an agreement to use the new Windshear wind tunnel in North Carolina is already in place, while USF1 intends to be a showcase for American technology and US-born drivers." Anyone know anything else about this? I know most NASCAR teams are in NC, but I can't see many (any?) NASCAR team going to F1...except the Captain (?). I know Penske has all of his race teams headquartered in NC. He did F1 before. What do you think? Is it Penske? If not, who? And do you think "Made in America" means an American engine? If so, who? Ford? I can't see GM doing it considering the mess it is in & Chrysler, no way. For fun we might as well start speculating on drivers. Marco? Graham? I don't think either is ready or has proven himself. Who then?

Well, who is buying the Honda assets?
From F1 Live . com, "Last year, we reported speculation that the prospective American team was in talks with Honda, after Ken Anderson attended the Montreal race and met with team chiefs Ross Brawn and Nick Fry. With Honda's Brackley-based team now for sale, Stuck said it would make sense for Anderson and his reported business partner Peter Windsor to now enter talks to take over the outfit." |

In today's economic situation, it wont see the light of day. If Honda cant make it with all their money and resources, then nobody can. I'd love to see it someday.

Very interesting. This could mean a return to North America for an F1 race eventually. Ian

If this is true, it's great news!
But wondering how US can compete with the technology of McLaren and Ferrari? If they are indeed developing there own engine, could be buying from another F1 team? Hay maybe they will get S Speed as a driver....never mind ![]()

If this actually happens it would be GREAT!
There are plenty of Investors with serious cash & sponsorship connections located in the US. The amount of liquidity sitting on the sidelines waiting to be utilized is monumental. Now I know, it takes sponsorships to make race teams viable. i.e. savvy owners/investors who have these connections, leverage the relationships of drivers or team owners. In addition they have to prove they know how to structure a team to survive several seasons including the global economy. It could happen, no doubt. I'll stay tuned ![]()

I hope it happens. Their are plenty of talented racing teams in this country already, and some of the top ones from NASCAR, ALMS, and IRL (or in Penske's case, all three) could probably pull it off.

I hope they utilize the marketing potential of F1 better than Honda did...which was horrid.

Ferrari is adamant they are out of the F1 business if this happens.
Guess it's good news for the new US team?

Wow! Unbelievably great news. With all the crap going on in the world right now, this is a much-needed morale booster for me. Finally something positive!
I vote for Patrick Long as lead driver.

If they could spin it into a "USA vs the world" storyline, I could see this having some serious appeal for the non-F1 fan. For the real fans, it's just pretty freakin cool. I hope it happens.

Subsidized by the stimulus plan too!
![]() If they don't have plans to commit for at least 3 yrs in order to make a respectable showing, this will go down in history as "the failed US F1 team" that shows just how more advanced F1 is than Nascar. Last edited by MotoSook; 02-05-2009 at 07:07 PM.. |

F1 is dead, I could puke when I see this stuff! Same engine, tires, ECU, etc etc basically it's Formula 3000 or Indy all over again, except....we already have an Indy and F3000!!!
![]() F1 was all about technology and who could come up with the craziest stuff and now we have this?? I wanna see the old engines back making 1600HP with the twin turbos etc not this cr*p! Been following F1 ever since I was a kid growing up in Europe, but I barely watched last year and I won't watch a single race in 2009, real F1 is officially dead for me. ![]() |

U.S. F1 team, excellent!!!! As long as we don't go in with a "good ole' boy" attitude. I know a few "left turners" will probably be involved though. You never know, it could be great!.
"spec class" engine/drivetrain for F1, just flat out effin sucks. Formula one has been the pinnacle for develpoment, the most advanced materials and hardware. I would hate to see that go. With the world economy woes, it's still good to see flat out carte blanche in some form of motorsports.

I thought the same thing or that it was from The Onion. I cant imagine why anyone in thier right mind financially would do this right now. especially from the States with Canada off the schedule and Indy being touch and go. I also think unless you are in the top 3-4 on a consistant basis the marketing cache is lost. Once a team is a backmarker the and takes on internet betting sites for sponsers you are all done with Ferrari, Toyota, Renault, and MClaren spending 500-700mil a yr
