SF City Employee Salaries
$330K for a nurse, $280K for a police sergeant
9000 employees earn >$100K So much for the low-paid civil servant. I learned the salaries of some friends: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2009/01/09/sfpay2008.DTL

$100k in San Fran is chump change. You might be able to afford a 1BR apartment downtown with that. Maybe.
I've turned down two job offers in the past in the bay area that on paper were VERY good - paid about 30% more than the job I just got laid off from. However it just wasn't worth it given the cost of living up there. Housing alone will kill ya'. And the traffic is almost as bad as L.A.

That is over a billion dollars, just for those employees. Wow!

No wonder it is so expensive to live in SF if public workers are making that kind of money, think what the taxes are.

Why do you think I'm trying to get on this bus? I will make more money in my first year as a 9/11 dispatcher(fingers crossed, one more interview) than I ever did in 15+ years in business.

anytime OT gets up to 1/4 of base, they need to be on top of that and manage it better.
it is good that is public. I suspect co -workers will apply some pressure for some of that OT and spread it around. |

sammy, i deleted my post because i changed my mind. info is public for a reason.
i wish someone would put up the numbers an unscrupulous contractor can squeeze from the public coffers. makes salaries look like a weekly kid's allowance.

Agreed, but you can live in the East Bay for less and take BART, it works. $100K for a family with kids in the Bay Area is pretty tight. For a DINK it is okay. House prices in the nicer parts of the Bay Area have held up relatively well so not much relief there (yet).

I think most of the $200K police officers etc are working insane OT hours. The city doesn't have to pay extra benefits, so I'm okay with it - if someone wants to live to work, that's their call.

I hope people understand this, but still, those 9000 racked up more than a billion dollars between themselves alone.
