Unwelcome Contacts From The Past?

Anyone have unwanted people from their past tracking them down?

A month ago I got a vmail at work from my former financee, who has apparently moved to Portland and wanted to get back in touch. Ignored her. Now I have a LinkedIn invite from a former friend from law school who also wants to get back in touch. For reasons I won't go into, I'm ignoring him too.

Do you feel compelled to respond and say "go away", or is ignoring them okay?

Don't respond. There may be a little "jyl" waiting for his daddy.

I don't have any stalkers. Should I be insulted?

Ex GF from High School tracked me down on Facebook. She taught me a valuable lesson in life early on that messed my head up for many years. The guy she was cheating on me with ended up marrying her and low and behold she just got divorced and decided to see what I was up to.

I ignored her friend request and her private message, I have no interest at all in knowing anything about her.

Conversely my best friend from when I was 5-10 years old found me on Facebook and that has been awesome.

I have also found lots of family I never knew I had, some even in Italy.

A previous employer tracked me down on LinkedIn. She was part owner of the three person start-up where I worked as field service manager. I worked my fingers to the bone for a year-and-a-half for that outfit. Six days a week, sometimes seven, and lots of national travel. I left because she and the owner were evil incarnate but their business cards had a biblical verse on it, believe or not.

Anyway, she tracked me down and had the nerve to ask for a recommendation on LinkedIn. I haven't responded to her. I wish I never signed up with LI because that witch is scary.

twice. one called and told me i gave her a STD. i about crapped myself and ran to my doctor. she ran full test, and gave me a clean bill of health. this was after 1 year of any intimacy. she insisted that i send her $$ for her visit.

then, i had one chase me down at the mall in my home town. she was the cutest little pixie type girl when i was with her. she blew up like a toad, and is now a cut-throat divorce attorney. dodge both of those bullets.... she had called me after years of silence..she said (verbatim),"hey cliff, my doctor put me on medicine. we can get back together now!"...i almost started crying in fear.

i DO NOT DO any facebook. i am link-in...which i should abandon now that i am thinking about it.

My ex-wife tracked me down almost 20 years to the day of our divorce. She had finally left the guy she was cheating on me with (my former best friend BTW) and just wanted to get together for old time's sake. Plus she had a free condo for a week on the beach.

WTF. I was between relationships, so I loaded up with a pocketful of Viagara (recreational use only) and off I went. Gonna make her regret ever leaving my azz We let bygones be bygones and had a blast for a week. She was still smokin' hot. Towards the end of the tryst, she confided in me that the biggest mistake in her life was leaving me. That she had thought of me every day for the last 20 or so years. That she was still in love with me.

And, oh yeah, the guy she left me for was a total loser. And.....she needed my help. Seems he had run up all her credit cards to the tune of $65K and refused to work much less help her pay the bills. Was there anything I could do?

Hmmmmmm....lemme think about it. We parted company with her going back to south Florida and me to Mississippi. We kept in touch during the subsequent weeks. She pined for me to be near and for us to rekindle what we once had. Finally she suggested that she move to be nearer to me...the distance was driving her mad. And, oh yeah, had I thought anymore about helping her with her problem.

At this juncture I sent her a sweet card. I said I had thought long and hard about how best to help her. I gave her the name and address of a florida atty that did bankruptcy. Told her I had paid his $750 retainer on her behalf. And to never contact me again.

Ahhhh.....revenge: a dish best served cold.

I've had a couple people try to contact me through classmates. The first was my first girlfriend after she had split with her husband of 20 years. I didn't respond. The other was an old friend from grade school I grew up with. I looked his name up in the county court records, saw he had a pretty extensive criminal history. I've got no desire to talk old times.

I ran into a guy I partied with in high school at a triathlon last year that was hooked into all the old gang & wanted me to come to some reunion, no thanks. The only people I wouldn't mind talking to would be my old military buddies, just to hear how things have gone for them.

Few years back ran into an old buddy, Joe.

Was great to see him and catch up, gave him my number, we gotta hang out yada yada.

Another buddy comes over and say's, "do you know where Joe's been the last few years?"

"uh, no"

"Federal prison, after school he was running with a gang in China Town holding up drug dealers. The Feds got to him and when his gang buddies found out they tried to kill him, stabbed him multiple times in broad daylight on the street. He went into witness protection for a while but got caught running guns so went to prison."

Needless to say I let all my calls go to voicemail for the next year.

And I thought I was the miniscule minority.

There's usually a good reason it's called "the past". I don't want to re-live it.

I signed up for facebook just after Christmas, it hasn't been too bad, just ignore the ones you don't want any contact with. One of the first messages I got was from a chick that I went out with one time. This is the message.....

"holy ****! i am so glad you are on here--you are one of, like, three people i have WAITED AND WAITED to see on here!!! YAYYYYYYYY!!!"

Bow chicka wow wow.
