Anyone famaliar with Google Page Ranking & adding html to a webpage

I have a website that currently has a Google page rank of 1 - which is very, very bad. This means that you basically cannot find my site doing any type of searching.

When I originally created the site using Homestead Sitebuilder, I called the help desk and the guy told me about Google Page Ranking System (algorithm). The guy sent me an e-mail full of html code and told me to paste it into my web pages.

I did this but the font was invisable and it didn't do anything (so it appeared to me). At the time, I did not realize that this was just html code that was invisably put into my webpages to be detected by the Google system.

Anyway, I deleted the e-mail that this guy sent me and I cannot find anything on the web that tells you about this.

Are there any IT geeks that can explain or post some html that I could use.

Thanks, in advance.........................Vern

Just some basics to help out.

Need to use meta-tags ... best thing to do is find your competitor/similar site and take a look at their source code. You can do this with most browsers. The major parts are located between the html and body sections.

Here is this threads code from PPOT

Quote:
meta name="generator" content="vBulletin 3.7.3" /
meta name="keywords" content=" Anyone famaliar with Google Page Ranking & adding html to a webpage, vbulletin, jelsoft, forum, bbs, discussion, bulletin board" /
meta name="description" content=" Anyone famaliar with Google Page Ranking & adding html to a webpage Off Topic Discussions" /

Use H1 and H2 (html headers) to set up better wording so that when spiders scan your pages they can find what are the words that you are using.

Stay away from those ?t=464215 type of urls. Many current CMSs allow you to use SEO friendly URLs. I normally recommend modx - cms (an internet buddy of mine is the main founder - product plug for a friend) however, wordpress, joomla, drupal, are just as good.

Get linked to many other sites ... this seems to help

Overall though the meta-tags and proper use of H1 and H2 (no not head lights ) can help you go a long way.
Also, if you go too specific with meta-words they can get ou number ranking but remember that you need to find just the right balance between being too specific and too general.

edit:
Had to knock off the < > tags to show in the quote.
I just realized that Wayne is doing a hell of a job advertising for vBulletin!
