A tale of recession: boat downsizing

Yup, I went from 200hp to a paddle, how about that .
I sold this puppy last summer:

And I just bought that bad boy :

Note that this is a Pelican, which is not by accident!; I still need to build a dolly for it, and I can walk to the lake two blocks away which is stocked with bass and trout. Being on the water is what makes me happy, not the size of the boat . No more $80 gas tank fillups, no more slip fees and no more winterization.

My kayak (12' Cobra Navigator) is one of the best things I've ever bought. I get an amazing amount of use out of it. I love it. From lakes to the ocean.

You also need a fast training 'yak or surfski, an expedition 'yak, a tandem, a....

They sell plenty of dollies for kayaks at fairly cheap prices, not worth the fab time/cost.

I have a Cobra ocean kayak in my garage right now - hardest part is schlepping it across the street to use it!

They are great fun though.

Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do; the important thing is that you're happy!
Congrats and happy fishing.

I love the water too, nothing like it.

Kayaks RULE!! The best exercise, both mental and physical, you can get. I've got a 17.5 wood touring that I built several years back.
If you need a cart or any other accessories just give me a shout!! I'll hook you up with a decent discount on anything you need.

I'm loving my Cobra, live bait well, lights, fish finder etc. Now, I am just waiting for the water to warm up.

I have a 17' seaward kayak and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made.
Have fun with it and be safe...

Tonight I loaded my boat up air bags and throwrope - Ready for the river.

I would be going this weekend but the trip has been cancelled because there are still ice shelves on the river. The trip has been rescheduled for next Tuesday with an expected temperature of 36f.

Nice catch.

We have two kayaks in the garage. A pair of Feathercraft folding boats. Haven't seen the light of day for over a decade. Inspired by this thread, I took one of them out and assembled it yesterday. Going to build the other this week, get a Yakima rack for the car, and get back into kayaking. Just gentle stuff. My days of long sea kayak trips in Baja are over, at least until the kids are a lot older and stronger.

Stock pic for those interested in what a Feathercraft looks like.

I really want a kayak with a livewell for shrimp. I am sure a bull redfish on my line would be like a trolling motor...
