The deputy showed up 40 minutes after you called 911? WTF????

I called the police station (not an emergency) about a woman who was trashing her ex-boyfriend's car and lawn stuff next door once after she caught him sleeping with another woman. At 3 AM. There was cops there before I got the chance to get the whole story out. Not just one car either. 4 cars.

Granted... they have nothing else to do in this town. Rolla MO has 4 precincts stationed here-
City Police
Sheriff's Police
University Police (ranked as State cops since it is a state school- don't mess with them!)
and Highway Patrol

Rozzers EVERYWHERE around here... yet there's still a fair amount of crime..

I got ran over in a felony assault and it took several 911 calls and 45 minutes for the cops to show up, and we were under 5 minutes from the police station.

I've had other times where i called and the cops never even showed up at all.

I really should have elaborated more.... this is more of an investigator type situation versus a patrolman type situation....

Not anhydrous ammonia in the drums. It's a compressed gas so tweekers usually transport it in a propane tank. They use so much other nasty crap - benzene, formadehyde, lye, acetone.... Absolutely nasty pot-full of crud...

In rural areas, most of the anhydrous is tapped from a farmer's nurse tank and into a bbq sized propane tank for transport. Nasty $hit. Don't let the "non-flammable gas" placard fool you - it's marked as an inhalation poison in every other country of the world...

The saga continues: Saturday evening, everything is shipshape. Sunday morning, the back door is open and there are other signs of illicit activity. Owner's sons show up in the afternoon. Confirm that the mess was created by intruders and that stuff was stolen. Also noted that the thieves put stuff in boxes, perhaps arranging for pickup later. Neighbor gal confirms she saw a truck backed up to the garage Friday evening loading boxes. Thought they were helping the owners. Deputy comes out and takes a theft report. CSI Miami shows up and dusts for prints, got some good ones off some bottles. Tech lady is confident something will turn up.

Sunday night, I'm thinking that the criminals are coming back to get the boxes of stuff. One of my kids and I decide to conduct surveillance so we walk a few rows into the almond orchard across the street (chips and beer in hand) and head north until we are in front of the subject premises. We did stayed out from 9:00 p.m. until 11:30 and did not see anything suspicious.

However, two things happened that scared the crap out of me. I mean heart pounding, hand shaking, adrenaline racing fear. The "what in the world am I doing" kind of thing. I don't have the time to provide details but the first was caused by the sons that were, unbeknownst to me, still at the house loading stuff in their truck by candlelight and I almost walked right into them. It took me ten minutes of binocularing to confirm their identity. The second was one of my daughters coming out to see us in the orchard, again, unbeknownst to me- this dark shape in a dark orchard on a dark night stealthily approaching our position. Holy crap. If you know what I am talking about, then you know what I am talking about. Otherwise, not so much.

No, the banjos were earlier in the day when we had our Easter get-together. Why do you ask?

I learned a tip from my wife when calling 911 or the Sheriff:

Mention that you have a rifle ready and will take care of the perpetrators yourself unless an officer arrives within 5 minutes.

Works every time.

It might get you on a "list" at the PD but yea any call with guns or threat of human harm takes top priority.

What state is this? In a lot of states you can shoot to kill people engaged in committing a felont or fleeing the scene from having committed a felony.

That should answer your question.

Yup, you might even be required to offer them a meal and first aid if they ask.

And when the 9-1-1 screener says...

"Sir... please don't do that... we will get an officer on the way as soon as possible. Okay, now stay on the phone with me."

...then you should say...

"Can't do that. My aim's no good when I'm on the phone. Good bye."
