some lever action
The 10 day wait over, last night picked up the Marlins and today off to the desert to break them in. Hooked up with a few friends who had their toys as well. We were shooting up to 300m with good results.
The short story is the 1984 Cowboy in .357 is a keeper. Totally effective and fun with the .357 magnum 158g JHP. We shot a few .38 cowboy loads and it was like a pop gun...amazing different. The 39A I'm on the fence about. I think I prefer the 10/22 and may look for a 10/22 target or maybe find a used Volquartsen. It might be a good thing for Calvin though as the lever will slow him down a bit (he didn't come today). Have to see how it goes. Was able to hit an orange traffic cone that was about 300m out while standing with both the Mini14 and the 1894. Practice is a good thing... Oh, and how's about that hat, Jeff? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

You must have a better job than I. Flat broke constantly. Of course if I would stop sending Pelican so much money it would be better.

Outstanding! Give the little lever gun a chance for awhile, and see what the kid thinks of it. One thing you will find is that it will cycle everything, because you cycle it. The recoil operated guns, like every .22 autoloader, can have a hard time with subsonic or "CB cap" level loads. The subsonic stuff is really fun - no noise at all.
Oh, and pretty darn spiffy levergun hats, too. They should include one with every rifle... Tell the gf hers in on backwards. Works with ballcaps; not so much with cowboy hats...

I went looking at some "superlight" .22s today. Magnum Research MagnumLite and Volquartsen Superlite. I have to say that I'm tempted - the things are very easy to point and carry. I tried one of the bull barrel version and ain't gonna go that direction. Time to go put money down on a 686+. I'm going to do it eventually anyway... |

I've been looking for one of these off and on a year now. Nobody in So-Cal has them. Where did you get yours?

Bought it from Andy at East County Guns in WA
www.eastcountyguns.com Just bought the 686 7-shot (sorry dad). Pick it up in 10 days as usual. Now I just need to make sure that Magtech truncated .38spl will shoot in the 1894... |

So, are you gonna take her out on the bike, too?
![]() The '94 should cycle the truncated cone .38's just fine. Most have pretty long noses, sticking well out of the case, so they shouldn't do the dreaded Marlin two-step.

She has her own helmet that fits just fine
![]() I'll try out the TN tonight. Looking forward to shooting the 686. I haven't read anything negative about the 7 shot vs 6 shot. I really like the red ramp with white outline on the rear site. Maybe my aging eyes but by contrast my Buckmark has no color and I have a devil of a time acquiring a target with that. I think I might try a red dot or sightmark on it as it has a rail from the factory. I like good iron sight though...I just can't see these. Love the ghost ring on the Mini14. |

PM me for FFL information. Are you looking for a 39A or 1894?

So, Todd, my impression is that when you go for something, you go for it in a big way . . .

Went and shot with my mom's uncle and he had a slick Browning .22 lever gun. I did not know they made such an animal. Nice and light but a good feel. Shot smooth and was super accurate.

The .357 Cowboys are a hoot. Try to find one of the ones from the run they did in .41 Mag a few years ago.
