The Adam/Allyson duet was good. Definitely beat Kris/Danny.

And WTF is up with that idiot Kara?

She would have recommended some "early" Aerosmith?

Uhm, sweetie, Dream On was on the FIRST ALBUM. It was Aerosmiths FIRST HIT.

Unimpressed

To me, he continues to come off as an actor with a great voice who's trying to act like a star - his stage presence just comes off fake.

I feel it big time.

Music is like that though. You either feel it or you don't.

However, AI is a singing contest, and he is clearly the best singer on that show, perhaps ever. As such, he should definitely win.

A lot of people thought freddie mercury was too theatrical, not every one "got him" either. It's just the nature of music.

To me, i see a superstar about to explode onto the scene, and regardless of our opinions here, it's pretty certain that's exactly what's going to happen.

IMO the best AI product thus far is, hands down, Carrie Underwood.

Her first audition on AI

I really like Carrie, but IMO Kelly was much more versataile and talented.

The show is an absolute star factory though- regardless of your personal favorite.

After tonight i have to say either chris or danny is toast. Danny was flat out terrible. I mean that last note on dream on was a total abomonation. Horrible.

Chris was ok, but in top 4, ok aint getting it done. It will be either him or Gokey gone. If Gokey goes, then Lambert is a shoe in.

Best singer ever?

That is a bad joke. He is good, might be best on the show (don't know, I don't watch it) but he is nowhere near in the league of dozens of singers. Compared to any number of guys he has zero soul. All show, no go.

But if you dig him, buy his albums when they come out. I'll pass. And I wouldn't mention Freddie Mercury in the same breath with this guy.

nostatic 05-05-2009 10:02 PM

As a point of reference, I would submit:

Robert Plant
Paul Rodgers
Ian Gillan
Chris Cornell
Roy Orbison
Marvin Gaye
Stevie Wonder
Roger Daltry
Smokey Robinson
Burton Cummings
Brad Delp
David Clayton-Thomas
David Bowie
Philip Bailey
Lou Gramm
Rod Stewart
James Dewar
and on and on

Maybe Lambert will grow into an artist. Right now he seems like a technician and actor who doesn't really believe what he's singing.

This thread's gay factor is beginning to climb.

To you he has no soul. Millions of others would differ greatly. Music is a matter of personal taste, there is no right or wrong really. Some people love Bob Dylan, i don't think he could sing his way out of a wet paper bag. All a matter of taste.

The four judges on the show, including the legendarily harsh Simon Cowell, all love this guy. Love him. He's gotten the only Cowell standing O in 8 seasons of AI. Hard to argue with that, but apparently not for some. ;)

Also, i did not say Lambert was the greatest singer ever, i said he was the greatest singer on AI ever- perhaps.

There is a vast difference.

I think the greatest singers i have ever heard are Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston in their respective primes. Without doubt.

Those are the only ones in Lamberts league to me.

And by the way, Smokey Robinson gave him a standing ovation this season too when he was a mentor in an earlier episode.

Amusing that one of your listed icons himself has shown Lambert great respect, where you show him little. Hehehe. But again, it's all quite subjective.

BTW: Robert Plant is probably my favorite rock vocalist ever. Led Zeppelin is probably my favorite band of all time.

Lambert, Whole lotta love? Led Zeppelin? (my fave band of all time) On AI?????

OMFG, SLAYED!!!

Yesssssssssssssssssss!

Zepp is my all time favorite band. I always wondered if AI would ever be able to afford the royalties that come with playing a Zepp song.

Adam was OK at best in my opinion. I have a hard time liking it b/c I compare it to the original.

OH and what a WEAK guitar solo! That sucked.

m21sniper 05-06-2009 06:09 AM

Well anyone would pale in comparison to the god that is Jimmy Page.

Of course i've seen many here slam him before too, which is incomprehensible to me, but that is the nature of music.

I was hoping Slash would play guitar on the songs last night, but i guess they didn't want to shell out that kind of cash. :)

nostatic 05-06-2009 06:27 AM

I"m not slamming him. He is very good. I'm just not a slathering fanboy that is unable to see his present shortcomings.

The pop road is splattered with good and not-so-good singers who people thought was "the best". Just because the fans scream and a few paid judges stand up doesn't mean they have soul or the magic.

But as you say, response to music is an individual thing. I'll wager a guess thought that I'm not the only one that things "technically very good but feels like he's faking it."

m21sniper 05-06-2009 06:39 AM

And i'll wager a guess that i'm not the only one that thinks, "Wow, legend to be."

Just read this thread as proof of that. ;)

Seriously though, if you're not good Cowell will tell you so in quite acidic terms. Every previous contestant he has deemed to be a star in the making, has turned into exactly that.

Some of the top names in music today came out of that show, in many different genres. As i said a few posts ago, it's a star factory.

Daughtry- Rock (triple platinum)
Cook- Pop Rock (platinum)
Clarkson- Pop (2 grammys)
Underwood- Country (3 grammys)
Hudson- R&B and Acting (Grammy, Oscar)
Aiken- Broadway (I think he's won a Tony, but i'm not sure)
Sparks- Pop (Double platinum)

There are others, but these ones are all pretty huge in their respective fields.

Netspeed 05-06-2009 09:29 AM

I think Adam is an exceptional performer but I feel his weakness is his theatrics. He looks and acts the part, but isn't a true rocker. After watching him and Allison in that duet, I think she could kick his *** in a bar fight! ;)

m21sniper 05-06-2009 10:25 AM

A lot of people hated elvis the pelvis for his theatrics too.

All subjective. I like Lambert(and Elvis) in pretty much every non-sexual way you can like a performer.
