I have the same issue with him. He started out really strong, vocally and had an emotional element, his new/young wifes sudden premature death, going for him.

But with each episode he becomes less relevant.

I put him ahead of Kris cause I think his fanbase is bigger/stronger, not because I think he is more talented.

He's a good middle american christian (nothing wrong with it) choir director from a solid all american family.

Remember Carly Smithson from last year? The one with the tats.

I really thought she was a final round contender. But I'd cringe every time they showed a shot of her husband. The guy was inked from head to toe, facial tat's don't go over that big with everyday america.

Then she sang Jesus Christ Superstar which was a great performance from her. Word on the street is the Christian community was offended and boom she was gone.

I didn't like her or the austrailian guy because, well, it's American idol.

I agree about the husband by the way- total freak show.

BTW, for what it's worth, the site i get these videos off of allows comments for each video. Every week the blogger puts up each video and people can comment in their favorite ones.

90% of all the comments are in Lamberts videos, and a small handful comment on Kris's videos.

No one else gets much in the way of comments at all.

I watch the show only because Adam Lambert is so damn good! His version of "If I only had you" was one of the best songs that I have ever heard!

Yeah he seriously, seriously slayed that song. (i think its actaully "If i cant have you" but i know what you meant)

I posted the link up above a little bit for you lad's enjoyment.

His If i cant have you, mad world, tracks of my tears, and ring of fire are IMO among the very best performances i have ever seen on that show, and i've seen pretty much all of them either on TV when they happened or subsequently on You Tube.

The amazing thing is he still has about 10 more songs to perform on the show.

BTW, there's a lot of buzz that this will be Simon's last year on AI.

Oh no, "Et tu Brute!" ;)

JMH82SC 04-28-2009 05:20 PM

Wow! I don't think this was his best but it is like he had 4 warm up acts.

m21sniper 04-28-2009 09:37 PM

God damn.

Seriously...just god damn...

OK Snipe. You win.

This guy is seriously good.

But I hate you for getting me interested in this show. ;-)

berettafan 04-29-2009 05:48 AM

that last performance was tired. the gimick is getting old.

the little guy with the buz cut is, imo, a better entertainer.

I like flamboyant performers of the pattern he is molded after. My favorite rockshows are the ones with big stage shows to go along. So i love the 'gimmick.'

A lot of people get bothered by his 'screaming', but i love artists who can unleash an epic primal scream. Tyler, Plant, Dickenson, et al.

This latest performance really blew me away. That closing note, with the echo effect- wow.

The little guy is good, but vocally Lambert could sing rings around him. (the little guy was #2 in Itunes downloads when they accidentally released the download tallies last week. A distant #2, but #2 nonetheless).

Dottore: Sorry bro, but i figured that this guy's talent would definitely overcome the "AI is lame" effect for a lot of people. He probably has more outright vocal talent than any rock singer since Steven Tyler in his prime.

He did Bohemian Rhapsody in his audition, i'm really hoping he gets the opportunity to do it on the show.

Exactly.

Every week.

I thought I'd interrupt the love fest thread. :)

Are those white patent leather shoes? Shades of Barry Manilow, Las Vegas and Branson, MO.

I used to have a pair of 'em when i was a bartender at a local nightclub. LOL.

Simon on the finals:

"Simon recently told ET, “I would put my money on Adam and Danny …It is going to be Adam and somebody. I would like to see Adam and Danny because I think they are the best two singers, and at the end of the day that is what should happen.”

Yep. I've grown weary of Lambert's "nuts-in-a-vice" high note. Enough already. This was supposed to be a Sinatra style performance. Lambert just can't help himself. No doubt he's wildly talented, but he needs to lay off the ear splitting shriek for a while.

That would be the same as asking Steven Tyler to not shreik and wail, or Jagger to not strut around stage like a cracked out peacock.

It is who he is.

IMO the reason he is on top like he is, is because of that tremendous high range of his. Take that away, he's just another AI contestant.

Au contraire. True artists don't push their technique onto the listener unless they feel it's an essential part of the composition. Many do so because they're unsecure in their ability to connect with the listener. They might impress with their vocal range and technical chops, but sometimes it's so much like Kenny's G's claim to fame, "circular breathing" abilities. Now what?

If Lambert floats your boat, that's great, but let's not claim him to be great just because he can sing falsetto. If his range is that good, he should also be able to adapt to the style requested by the show - Frank Sinatra style. I think that performance was off base, but I don't know, perhaps closer than the others whom I haven't heard yet.

BTW, is Tony Bennett's greatness judged by his vocal range? Nope. Here's my guy with range and chops. Probably not many have heard of him:

or something more recognizable from the song book of classics:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uCdjswQPKbA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uCdjswQPKbA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Sorry to digress from the Lambert thread. Please continue.

he won't lay off because he can't hold a candle to buz cut kid otherwise.

it's becoming terribly apparant that Lambert is a one trick pony. he's demonstrated what to me is a great ear for arrangements...sometimes...but so has buz.

even my wife who is a huge fan allowed me to criticize lambert this last time around without accusing me of being homophobic.

That's progress. My kids won't tolerate any criticism of Lambert.
