Hey Matt,
Probably the 'ol grass is greener anology? Ha.

I was unsure about going in for mechanical engineering or construction engineering at the time; for years I'd thought I made a mistake as many of my buddies were working for oil companies making big bucks, who knows what would've happened had I taken the "Y" in the other direction? I chose construction because I'd done it since I was old enough to hold a hammer; Dad was a renovator.

Our industry doesn't have a huge amount of smart guys and it sounds like you got the smarts, so crossing over would likely be just a decision away? My industry is mainly about planning and then implementing the plan. My biggest challenges have been not letting the interest payments wipe out the profits; of course sales and costs are factors, but that is the biggest one by far. Sneaks up on a guy when he's not paying attention.

What level of construction or marketing is it that interests you? It's alot of fun, you'd enjoy it for sure.

I'm for hire as a consultant in the composites engineering field, specializing in carbon fiber pre-preg manufacturing processes, including rapid prototype development, mold and tooling work, and direct-manufacturing techniques.

I also have broad experience in racing and the crossover point between the two. I'm seasoned in the setup, aerodynamics, and data acquisition involved with open wheel single seaters and bike engined sports racers (F-1000, Formula Atlantic, DSR, CSR, S2000). I've setup and tuned Motec engine management systems and traction control systems. I offer my full services in designing, manufacturing, implementing, and tuning traction control systems for MoTec ECU's.

Myself and another individual also run a small consulting operation running Computation Fluid Dynamics simulations on racing vehicles, mainly open wheel but also sports racers.

I have work lined up pretty steadily for the next year but I'm always looking for more, especially weekend stuff. I do farm myself out as a setup mechanic for trackdays..

I'm an IT consultant, managing small to medium sized businesses. Installations, upgrades, troubleshooting, hard drive recovery, virus/malware removal.... I also do the grunt work, like running network cables through crawl spaces, setting up routers, switches and modems on wall boards. I do other security related consulting as well.

I'm fluent in Windows (all versions), Linux (Slackware, Redhat, OpenBSD and others). I also know my way around SCO Unix.

It's just an idea I've kicked around. I have a background in real estate, my grandfather owns multiple mobile home parks, so it's always been an interest. I did a variety of remodeling prior to heading back to college, so I have plenty of hands-on experience.

I've always planned to someday own rental property, so property management has always been an area of interest. I threw out construction management because I think I'd be a good project manager, my current position is mostly directing a variety of finite resources (engineers, suppliers, money) to complete a project both on time and under budget. I'd also be a better realtor than any of the ones I have hired.

Basically I think I have a knack for real estate, I have real world experience, and some days I really hate sitting on my ass at a desk.

I've got the best tenants you could ever ask for and I still HATE being a landlord. It SUCKS.

Don't you live across the country from your rental? I can imagine that being a royal PITA.

Well, I s'pose it wouldn't be much fun to live 10 min. away either, when they call you in the middle of the night for a clogged toilet.

I just worry so much that they could skip on me and I'd not even know about it until the rent was late, then not be able to physically change the locks or get their stuff out or re-rent the place without a major ordeal.

Artist. I paint (mostly car portraits) on just about any surface I can get my hands on. My website is www.airbostongraphics.com. While I wish i could do this full time, I'm still doing my artwork between my two "real" jobs.
