I used the same type of pavers to build a small patio:
![]() And stepping stones: ![]() I'm going to do my drive way next - some day. I only hope is looks as good as yours does. Last edited by Tidybuoy; 04-19-2009 at 09:31 PM.. |

Beautiful work! Use Simple Green if any oil spots show up from your friend's cars.

I love pavers and they totally make sense in SoCal.
Starting concrete driveway - blah!! ![]() Demo concrete driveway ![]() The folks I hired wanted to add a "signature" and embedded a paver walkway from the sidewalk to the front door ![]() ![]() We carried it around the home and into the backyard. Best investment I made thus far. ![]() Those were a few years ago and still the pavers look great. No cracks Be sure to seal them with a quality product. I can't imagine this as a DIY job. The individual stones are heavy and there's lots and lots of them. I had a crew of 8-10 here for a week.

The big bonus with pavers is that you can change your mind. I added this BBQ island a couple years after the original install. I simply pulled up the stones that were in the way, poured the concrete and built the island, then hired the original folks back to relay the stones around it. Gravy.
![]() Yea I'm sorta boasting here but honestly I think pavers are the way to go. |

And, when the riots come, you'll have plenty of pavers to throw.

Nothing wrong with that at all. That BBQ is something to be proud of. Copper countertops?

I believe I paid $5.50 sq/ft installed. The second time they visited (for the bbq) the price went up to $7 sq/ft. The labor cost for paver install is higher than concrete. Try to find a smaller independent contractor for the job. I had a couple quotes from the "big" guys (Systems Paving) that were in the $14 sq/ft range. They would of course immediately knock off $2 sq/ft cause I was such a cool dude...
![]() The bbq island countertop is actually a poured-in-place concrete (that part I hired out -- difficult work - along with the Palapa install). I DIY the design/layout, foundation, concrete blocks, electrical and gas hookup, concrete stain, bbq install, and the final stone veneer. I used a two color (amber and walnut) acid stain on the top and then finished with a clear. I'm going to do the exact same stain/clear treatment to my garage floor instead of tile or epoxy paint. Paul, what became of the trailer? The nice thing about pavers is you can easily add on later. The color combo you choose works really well with your house. The Porsche in the garage doesn't hurt either
