Cool, although the choice of settings for the shots seemed a bit arbitrary - kinda' like "Mad Max goes out for a nice Sunday drive in the pretty countryside". Shoulda' been a lot more post-apocalyptic looking.

George, didn't you post a photo essay a few years back that had pictures taken all over Detroit? My impression is that all of the industry moved out of the city decades ago and everything (from the neighborhoods to downtown) fell into disrepair as the tax base disintegrated. I was under the impression that the city doesn't have any "good" areas left.

I do visit the old neighborhood and surrounding areas, the photo opps are many and do not represent "the average place" or "normal condition" of most. I'm not kidding you, and fully admit many many places are not even shadows of what they were 40 years ago.

A few larger architecture firms moved back into Detroit in the last ten years because that is where much of the work is. However, I see it all sliding back into the dark pit unless fair labor, American labor is given a chance.

In my early 20s (lets call those my 'lost' years) I lived in downtown Detroit, close to the corner of Trumbull and Temple. 2 blocks up from the old Tiger Stadium, right behind the Wonder Bread factory you could see from the Lodge Fwy(until they tore it down and built a casino )

Detroit was Mad Max land even. A great place for doing drugs and throwing rave partys, but not anywhere you would want to live. Even the 'good' pockets of Detroit like Palmer Park are surrounded by some rough country.

Saw some crazy sights living there. Like a drunk man with a 27" television set over his head, chasing an equally drunk woman through 12" of new fallen snow. He was trying to drop it on her like a caveman. Did I mention this all happened in the middle of a 4 lane street?

When gasoline was in short supply why did MadMax choose a gasoline gulping V8 - surely a nice little 4 cylinder grocery getter, or a moped would have been far more practical?
I admit they would have looked a bit ghey, so maybe he wasn't confident enough in his manhood?

But, you may recall that Max had the very rare 'econo' model blower mounted atop that fiery V-8. He could cruise around getting respectable mileage, then when needed, flip the switch and boost on!
