Middle age E.D. - is ther a cure

And now for something completely different.

And you young bucks snickering in the back ground just remember some day this will be you.

So anyway, I'm 52 and on diabetic meds (actoplus... or something that sounds like that) and long story short... when I am with my lady friend sometimes Mr. Happy isn't so happy. Not all the time but intermittently

Tried Viagra but didn't seem to make a difference.

I am open to suggestion... meds, dietary, lifestyle, homeopathic, whatever...

What dost thine PPOT brain trust say?

Thanks in advance

Oh and seeing the Doc Monday to have my blood sugar check so I could ask him about it then.

I guess the obvious question is if it's related to your medication. Your doc could perhaps offer an alernative that allows more fun in bed, but you die sooner? Sounds like a good trade off.

If it works perfectly well sometimes but not at other times it may not be due to diabetic microvascular disease. It may be inadequate arousal. Simple as that. Also, once you start doubting your performance it becomes a self fulfilling prophesy.

Ask your doctor for a sample of the 5mg Cialis "every day" pill. Instead of taking it before you need it, you take one a day. I've heard some people at the pharmacy who are on other medications who experience ED like it and say it works better than the Viagra. But then again, it's up to your doctor and whether or not it works for you.

Actoplus is a metformin preparation. Not associated with E.D.

Are you getting much exercise? Maybe a bike ride or running will release more testosterone and get things moving on the "up and up" if ya know what I mean.

You ask if dietary. Doctors don't prescribe diet so much as to what to eat, only what not to. If I had your difficulty, I'd be motivated to do more than I do. Here's the way I think it works: our bodies get into poor condition later in life more easily. We don't tolerate what we used to. Well duh, you say.

I don't think just reducing or eliminating what is not working diet wise does the job. Once one gets overweight or has high blood pressure, just to point out a couple of common problems, I think you have to get proactive and go the other way rather than simply eliminating the obvious.

For instance (and I was going to put this in a thread, but I'll put it here), I think I've discovered that I'm now hypersensitive to sulfites. So, my plan is to now avoid sulfites, not an easy thing to do in today's grocery market. I may have to eat completely differently to reverse what has built up. Or maybe a big reduction will do the trick. but, I'm planning on making some big changes as soon as I understand this better. Meanwhile, I'll stop eating and drinking that which contains sufites.

If I had diabetes, I'd be eating accordingly and never touch alcohol.

you definitely need to discuss this with your doctor
- dunno re nutrition but bike seats can be an issue
- don't confuse nostrums with actual medicine

Good Luck

kudos on being open about it

Exercise can do wonders. Doen't have to be anything hardcore. Go for a walk, bike, swim. Get the blood going 3-4 times a week.

Kudos to you for posting. Within the next year, I'm going to be posting a 'How do I go bald gracefully?' thread.

Well all I can say is half a little blue pill and a few hits of herb and I'm off on a sexual vacation. Both I consider true recreational drugs. I concur, if you're not "into" your partner all the V in the world won't help.. Hence the herb.. Hey you're in CA you can get a card for it!

I'm no gym rat but do the stairs at work, bike and walk about once a week, try to eat pretty good... but I am 20-30 lbs overweight at 5'10"

Could always see if she has a sexy young daughter, and if it has any difference on your performance.

From a strictly scientific point of view, of course. You could even call her the Control Group.
