How to NOT get a rooster bite.

DON'T PUT YOUR FINGERS THROUGH THE WIRE CAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

So my son and I met my wife and daughter for a picnic today and took the 911 for a drive after.

We strolled through historic Frankenmuth which has a covered bridge, shops, and a riverboat.

Oh, and a cage with birds in it. A couple of peacocks, 2 biga$$ Rhode Island Reds, and some pigeons.

I bought some feed and called the roosters over to us. One was growling. I thought this was kind of strange but I haven't been around enough roosters to know if it is normal or not. Eh, whatever.

Soooooooo, to show my son what happens if you stick your fingers through the cage wire, I did it.

The SOB got my finger but good. Felt like a pinch, really. My son freaked out, however.

He thought the rooster was trying to suck my blood..........like a vampire.

Note to self: Don't let son watch anymore bat/vampire videos.

When we arrived home later, he told my wife that "Daddy got bit by a chicken".

She pretty much just shook her head and chuckled.

I did something similar in Italy a number of years ago. The bird 'looked' friendly and was mimicking human speech, although not a parrot...

The sign did warn against sticking fingers in the cage, but tried to pet the thing anyway... Yup, it bites!

Don't do that with a parrot. They can bite to the bone...and then laugh at ya.

I have been bitten by several animals over the years as I worked in a pet shop when I played in the band. Yep, parrots have very strong beaks. I was bitten by a Macaw I was feeding. He was just a baby but it hurt for a few days.

Side story: Buddy I worked with taught him to say 'lose some weight!".

You should have seen some of the faces of the folks browsing. priceless.

Mama rat got me one time while changing her food dish. She was pregnant and apparently didn't want me to be in her cage right then.

Several reptiles got me but no snakes. We didn't carry them and if we had I wouldn't have been anywhere near them.

I have never gotten bit by a goose but I imagine it feels like a pinch.

Back in college I had a Half Moon Parrot (conure) who would nestle up to my neck and take a nap with me on the couch.

The bird would wake up before me and with the same beak he'd once drawn blood from my finger, would gently lift my eyelid open to wake me up. Didn't hurt me at all - but really freaked me out the first time he did it! Amazing the sensitivity and control birds have over their beaks.

Recently I got bit by my friends pet bird, doing the same thing. I never learn.

Well living in Frankenmuth for a chicken is pretty much a death sentence so it would make sense he wasn't happy.. Zenders or Bavarian Inn ??

I never thought of that!!

The cage is on the Bavarian Inn property but I think the birds are part of Uncle Tiny's farm which is down the road a bit.

What was really cool was the peacock that was fanning his feathers out.

Really cool to see in person.

BTW-I am not a fan of tyhe chicken offered in F-Muth. Too greasy for me.

Not a big fan either, lived there for years ( actually a Bridgeport kid for most of my formative years).
Did lose my virginity to the mayor of F'muths daughter however

The worst thing about a goose attack is getting hit by their wings. You'll notice in that video, the only time the dog yelps is when it is struck. I got hit in the leg once & had a bruise for three weeks.

A few years ago, a girl scout leader here in LA took her girl scouts to the local animal sanctuary and the leader stuck her finger in the cage of a mountain lion. It bit her finger and fulled the finger and about 2 feet of tendon/muscle/ligament out of her arm.

Do they bite? I know they peck real bad..

My sister's old rooster came after my dad with spurs flying - the old Man kicked this poor fowl half way across the yard. Even at 70+ you don't mess Pops..

We have dozens of wild turkeys that make the rounds through are yard almost every day. I came out to my car to find a large male turkey standing behind my car on one leg. I tried to shoo him away but he held his ground and just flared his feathers and tail. Long story short he finally hopped away on his own. We also have a mother fox and brood of kits next door living in a den of old construction materials.
I didn't see hop along turkey for days and then when walking my dog in the back yard came across this. Seems the poor bugger met up with the fox.

Scary thing with chickens in their attraction to shiny round things. You know like cherry tomatoes, grapes, and eyeballs!

I had heard the warning many times before but got it in the eye by one of my hens last year. I was in the coop bending down when one of the birds that had been sitting next to me curious about what I was doing decided to see if my eye was as tasty as a grape. Luckily she missed and got my cheek.

We have 3 roos and 17 hens, none are at all aggressive except nesting hens. When they are in the nest box they really want to be left alone.

My African Grey, Bubba has taken some nice chunks out of my hands when hes pissed off. A larger Macaw can snap finger bones.

Rabbits too, can give a nice bite.
