Thanks for the kind words about my car, dudes. Yeah, a NoCal guy was the first to draw blood by sending some $$, so it stays in CA. for the time being. I just finished installing the new brakes about 30 minutes ago as per selling agreement, they've been sitting on the shelf for a month. New Mintex pads all-around and new rear rotors. (Front rotors were done on the last brake job and are still fine/in spec). The pads that were on the car wore very evenly F/R and L/R, they were all equally shot and installed together. Good system on that car, even the stock brakes have pretty large drilled and vented rotors all-around and 4-piston calipers on all wheels. If the car was lightened and had turbo brakes, I can't imagine the braking power.

996s are very easily converted to track or racing cars, there is a lot of Porsche's racing technology in them. I think that the chassis of this car would last forever, as in 40 more years. I'm going to miss it.

BTW, I love '73 914 2-liters. I had one in 1976 w/ 28k miles on it, (funny I even remember that), great car. They're getting pricy if that guy gets $17.5k. The whole idea of a 914 was always an inexpensive Porsche.

The other thing is that the guy who bought my car is going to use it for a DD for the time being. My A/C is probably a little colder than the 914's.

I've had the pleasure of instructing the new owner in his BMW several times now at Sears, Laguna and TH.

He's really coming along and this will be a much better car for him.

It's going to be learning all over again. Hopefully we can get to the track this month.

I love my 914 but the 914 is really more of a toy than a real car.

I hate the 996 unless it's a C4s, the plain 996 is about the ugliest 911 there is.

However, that blue on the 914 is god awful and I'd take any 996 over it.

Dead-stock that's all they're worth. If you are seeing them with full H&R suspension and new Pilot Sports on hollow turbo rims+ full aero kit, short shift and exhaust, please post a link. There are several people here who would buy them today.

My car has desirable upgrades that cost a lot of $$. Aero is ~$3k, (though front bumper is beat-up), suspension is $3k+installation and alignment, (and impossible to find used), rims are usually ~$1500 and tires are $1200 from the cheapest place on earth installed, etc., etc...

If you know of any smoking deals, (or ordinary deals as you say), on 996s or Boxster Ss, please post them here for the track junkies.

Cars that are priced at the low end are very easy to sell.

Yes, you can buy a 996 for $17K, but that is pretty much the low end for a decent car. That $17K 996, if complete and halfway decent, will sell quickly.

So when you go even 20% lower than that (i.e., $14K), you are going to sell the car in a few days. Even though $3K doesn't necessarily seem like a huge amount, for purposes of selling a car like this, it makes a big difference.

Add in that with D's car you are buying from someone who has been around a long time and is honest, upfront and isn't going to screw you for a few bucks, it makes it a great deal and an easy sale. (Proven by the market, which scooped it up quickly).
