Son was attacked by Rottweiler last night

My 10 year old was attacked by a Rottweiler while playing at a neighbor's house yesterday. A freak thing as the dog's owner was right there with the kids when it happened, but the dog just wigged out or something. The dog bit his head and face. We go into surgery soon. At this point, nothing looks like it will be lifethreatening. I think he will be fine, just hoping the cosmetics turn out good. We have a very good plastic surgeon (he took care of my daughter when she sliced through her hand/fingers). My son is a tough and brave boy. They keep asking him if he wants anything for pain and he says it doesn't hurt and is not bothering him. As I write this in his hospital room, he is playing Playstation. Please keep him in your prayers if you are the praying type. We are about to go into surgery within the hour. Just hoping at this point he does not have my hairline as an older man. He is very lucky, where the dog bit him, was very close to his left eye and things could certainly have been a lot worse. Looks like we will have a vacation at the hospital this weekend.

Thoughts are with you and your son. Youth is on his side. The scars will dramatically fade by the time he cares about things like that. Don't be alarmed by the swelling after surgery. It will likely look worse before it looks better. But in the end, he'll be surprisingly OK.

Jeeez....... poor guy. Sounds like a brave kid.
I have been semi-seriously bitten by 2 dogs in my life, both dogs were Rottweilers
The dog, unfortunately, has to be put down.
Hopefully your neighbor has taken care of this matter.
Best wishes for a full recovery.

My God, I'm sorry to hear about this Shane. Best wishes to the little guy and your family.

Have you removed the dog from your foot yet?

I would have a hard time restraining myself if this happened to one of my kids.

Side story: The girl that cut my hair today has 2 4 YO girls AND a 90 pound pitbull.

She's a single Mom and got him for protection.

Yikes - good luck with the surgery. The good thing is that kids tend to heal quickly and a good surgeon can do wonders.

From your post, your son sounds like a great young man...you can't teach bravery.

With you, mom and the crew you'll get it done.

I wish you all the best.

I hope all goes well, Shane.

The dog should be put down at the very least.

Thoughts for you and your son. Kids have remarkable healing powers and in months the physical scars will heal. Looking forward, it would be good if he was able to not develop a fear of dogs as hard as that might be.
