Mold & Drywall

OK guys, is there anything that that I can do about mold in my drywall?? With my roof leak, and ceiling falling in last week, I already know that the ceiling & insulation will have to be replaced after the roof is fixed, but what about the wall where the water ran down??

Bleach will kill mold.

25% bleach solution, and after it dries, a coat of Kilz will prevent any future problems.

Make sure you do not use the Chinese import drywall. Rotten egg smell and other chemicals used in production.

I would remove all the drywall with mold when you repair the damage. Bleach does kill the mold but since you have so much damage, it is not that much more work. You may only be removing the surface mold with the bleach and the back of the sheet may have more serious problems.

Yeah you don't want to be sue by a future buyer for the mold problem now that it is on a public forum, and you didn't disclose the problem to future buyers.

Pull drywall and scrub the studs until clean, spray with 10% bleach:water. Let dry, replace drywall. I used to do this for a living.

That is what I thought & planned on, just wanted to be sure. With my ashma, two things that will make me sick as a dog instantly are mold & bleach

I'm in a good area, not selling until I can be actually on the river, even with the prop value drop, I'm still in very good shape there, plus, I'm in an older established area, some of the people here have been here for generations..

Ouch! My eyes. That crown moulding is pretty bright.

Agreed with above statements, and some of the wall might need to be replaced as well. I used bleach on the last job I did that had begun to mold and it seemed to work well enough.

Byron, between the health stuff and the roof falling in, hope your summer is better than your spring.

Me too. The studs will dry out fine, the bleach kills the mold. Don't even think of keeping the drywall.

My take on this is that all drywall "gypsum", foreign and domestic, is made from spent fly-ash from coal plants.
The Chinese just burn the high sulfur coal(and probably other things) in the mix.

Byron- open 'er up, air it out, and spray liberally with bleach. You may just get away with insulation and drywall.
Black mold is a killer of children and pets, and could result in a lawsuit from a future buyer.

Just typical FL. rain, heat, humidity
