A valet park my classic porsche and scratch my work brombachers wheel....and you know the fine print on the ticket...they're not responsible for any damages that occurre on the vehicle....what a bomber...that ain't happening again

The only car I would let a valet drive possibly is a rental car.

Funny thing is that while most Pelicanites would never let any valet (or anyone else) drive their car, the vast majority of people who drive high end autos (Porsche, M-B, Lambo, Ferrari,, etc., etc) and live "The Life", willingly toss their keys to a valet every weekend while they are out and about.
Must be nice to have that kind of money where it just another car.

I did at the Villa Nova once. The kids parked it right in front and just loved the car. Couple of teens that really knew the car, so I trusted them and don't regret it.
Otherwise, generally it would take someone like these guys.

Funny you said that...he park it right up front, but so close to the curb, he touch one of the wheels...well it's not happening again....

I valet parked when young.
While there I learned to drive a stick, how to burn rubber, how to switch new covered spare tires that fit my bald ones, same with batteries, how to swipe 1/8 tank of gas, how to fit cars within 2" of each other and climb out windows. Oh yeah, had my first experience with touch up paints.

I do it every so often. We have a car wash service at my parking garage and when I have them wash my car, they valet it and drive it outside to wash it. No issues so far and $10 for a hand wash isn't too bad. The garage is in one of my work's buildings, which I frequent for meetings and can usually see my car. So far no issues. It's the same kids there every day, so I see them on a regular basis. Not sure I'd let some "random" valet that I'll probably never see again, take the keys.

I too used to valet cars ...it was great money ...I found that the guys w/ the nicest cars usually tipped the lowest though.
In any case, yes, we'd park cars incredibly close together, probably bumped a few bumpers getting cars in and out of tight spots. Definitely burnt some clutch (I was only 16). Yet we NEVER took joy rides in the cars.

I went to an upscale restaurant this past weekend, and purposely elected to chance it in the parking structure around the corner, rather than trust it with the valets. A door ding is still cheaper than a clutch or transmission. Of course my boss, in his (leased) Maserati coupe, allowed the valets stake him out at the curbside pole position for the night.
Last year, a few Pelicans got together for a birthday drive. There were 5 of us, I think, who did a morning drive, and capped it off with a brunch. Kinda funny, to have 5 of us pull up in old Porsches, and then ask if we could just park the cars ourselves.

We did tip the valet anyway and Duke's usually lets us park our own cars. We had another drive where there were about 20 or 30 cars pulled into Duke's and we ALL parked ourselves!

That was kinda funny. "No we're not being cheap. We just want to park them, ourselves." In the meantime, other people are showing up in cars worth as much as all 5 of our old Porsches, combined. They were fairly accomodating, though.

The "high end" drivers that you describe don't care about giving their car to a valet because they are almost all rental cars (i.e., leased). |

I parked myself at the House of Blues in Hollywood as well, but I had to leave the keys, then they moved my car, then I made them give me my keys back!

It was for Gogar! I would not have brought the car down, the Toyota works well for that.
