Seriously, all theory and BS aside, how do the LEOs respond to the fact that she said she would sign the citation BEFORE she was tased?

The police spokesman(referred to here by several posters as "an arrogant douche" or words to that effect) was already on TV praising the cops actions.

Clearly to him it's perfectly fine to juice little old ladies with massive quantities of voltage "for their own safety."

My take for those agencies affected:

a. Training standards are lower
b. Recruitment standards are lower
c. Bureaucracy and/or society has allowed police powers to increase, along with a and b

Snipey, without the taser, the options are much less. In the same category that calls for the taser, other options are impact weapons (batons), punches and kicks, a carotid restraint, and the use of a canine. All of the listed can cause lasting, serious injuries. The taser is temporary stopping once the power ends, which is a matter of seconds. The suspects who have died after being tased had additional medical issues and in many cases were under the influence of drugs.

The taser is very effective and minimizes injury to all involved.

Philly cops seem to get along just fine without them.

The tazer is a crutch for bad interpersonal/communication skills.

And when it's actually needed pepper spray works just as well. I've seen gigantic men cry like little babies from pepper spray (applied by yours truly).

Couple real life incidents involving my use of pepper spray:

Once a HUGE brother tried to mug me at 3:00am while i was sitting on a gf's front stoop in Society hill, just off South street (the one from the song "where do all the hippies meet, south street, south street"), waiting for her to get home.

Thank god i'd lost my keys(i was a bartender at the time) and i had to borrow the day bar maids bar keys, upon which there was a canister of pepper spray. I was sitting there with my head in my arms half asleep waiting for the girl to get home- feeling secure as society hill is a pretty exclusive enclave, and suddenly i'm lifted off my feet- clear off my feet- by my hair. Thankfully i had the keys in my hand already.

I open my eyes and i'm confronted by a gigantic (6'5" plus, easily) black bastard cocking his arm back to crush my face with a monster punch. So i unloaded the entire can of pepper spray in his face. He was so stunned he just stood there and let me spray his face for several seconds, mouth agape.

Once the pain set in he went down onto his knees and dropped me, so i proceeded to kick him in the ribs and head (with cowboy boots) until i was literally so out of breath that i felt as if i was going to puke.

All this fuss drew a crowd, all of whom vigorously cheered me whilst heckling the would be mugger as he literally crawled away on his belly.

I distinctly remember seeing one pretty hot chick who was part of the crowd spitting in his face and stomping on his back with her spiked high heels a good half dozen times.

The other time i was a door man at a nudie bar and some stupid (and quite large) puerto rican decided it would be wise to beat his wife in front of me. Wrong move amigo. He got sprayed and then commenced to sqeal like a girl for about 5 minutes about how he was going to come back with his boys, how he knew jujitsu, and blah, blah, blah. Keep in mind this cat was an easy 6'3" 250 and i'm all of 5'7" 155-160lbs.

IOW, he was a pusssy who was only tough when it was his petite wife he was beating. Never saw that lout again.

I've also used it a few times on regular sized guys. Most recently(about 8 months ago) my partner had to pepper spray a hit and run driver that we'd pursued back to his house after we saw him CRUSH some poor lady in her car and he tried to flee the scene. He drove right home, we got out to "secure him for the police", and he got belligerent.

Well, i am sure you can guess how that ended. (the best part- when the cops did finally show almost an hour later- after some dozen 911 calls, they gave us mega attitude for some unknown reason).

Ah...the memories.

Wow. What ever happened to blonde girl decorum? What set her off, the fact the perp was black or because he disturbed you? Did you have an audience while you were snoozing?

But I agree. Pepper spray is nasty stuff, but I think preferable over electrocution to incapacitate a suspect.

Good thing you were not a cop and being videotaped..... Some @sshat on the internet would be calling for your head on a platter for kicking the hell out of a bad guy that was already subdued from the pepper spray. Some other @sshole would probably also join in claiming you are a racist.

FWIW, I think you did the right thing whether you were a cop or not.
