Pepper spray is not a practical solution in some cases. Some people are COMPLETELY immune to the effects. In addition, the pepper spray affects cops just as much as the bad guy. After the bad guy is sprayed, the cops have to get into physical contact with him. The spray affects them, which can then be extremely dangerous should the bad guy try to disarm the cop. As a trained fighter, I am out of commision once someone sprays pepper spray.

I have been tazed, sprayed, and everything else during training, David

Wow. What ever happened to blonde girl decorum? What set her off, the fact the perp was black or because he disturbed you? Did you have an audience while you were snoozing? Where'd they come from?
Lots of people out and about late at night down there. South street is an all night affair in the summer months, when this occured. Some folks must have seen the start of it and rushed over, and then others showed up as well. I was kicking this guy for quite a while. By the end of it there were an easy dozen people there, and they seemed to understand the guy was a mugger and several asked me if i was ok, though i never actually said anything pertaining to how the fight started. I suspect the sheer size difference alone kind of gave away what was going on. The guy was huge, so thank god i had the pepper spray.

At any rate, i strongly suspect he never mugged anyone again.

I went way over the top in that incident, i won't deny it.

I've heard about the guys that are supposed to be immune, just never ran accross one nor do i know of anyone that personally has, but i've heard 'the stories'. If nothing else, it's extremely hard to fight with foriegn fluid in your eyes though. The foam stuff is probably even better for the blinding aspect.

You can definitely get it on yourself after spraying someone though, you gotta be really careful with that.

I have heard of incidents of people hyped up on PCP or whatever else pulling tazer leads out of their chest and continuing to fight too though. No idea if it's true or not. I've never seen it.

I've been zapped with a 65,000volt stun gun, i really was not very impressed. Tazers have a lot more juice though.

Never been pepper sprayed(though i've gotten a little in my eyes before), but i did get hit BIG TIME in the Army by a CS grenade that went off pretty much at my feet. The gas chamber was nothing in comparison. Those grenades are freaking nasty. I had snots down to my knees, was totally blinded, lost my rifle, and literally ran into a tree, almost knocking myself out in the process. It was not pretty.

Never been tazed yet, bro.

This guy followed their instructions, was calm, polite, and only asked a few reasonable questions.

And they still tazed him...

most of the time I side with the tazed person was abused.

9 warnings.

but, hes a cop with a power trip, she did agree to sign

ops should have to pay $500 every time the taze. it's a tool but it shouldn't be used everydy

I have personally seen many people who pepper spray did not affect. No effect at all! After a person has been sprayed, almost always there is a "grappling" effort to handcuff him or her. This almost always transfer the effect of pepper spray onto the officer, foam or spray.

The Taser works on a different method of incapacitation than simple delivering a shock. Go to their website and you will get an overview of the method.

Don't you find it interesting that the people getting tazed, beaten, "unfairly" treated are always the people resisting arrest, screaming profanaties, etc....

just an observation.

I listen to the opinions of people who actually know what they are talking about. The opinions of those who obviously do not know what they are talking about are nothing but noise. Should tasers be used? Law enforcement should make that call. Is a particular tazing unreasonable? I suppose we can all opine on that, but it is very unlikely our opinions mean much because we never have all the facts.
