N Korea Missle Launch to Hawaii soon?
By ANNE GEARAN, AP National Security Writer Anne Gearan, Ap National Security Writer – 20 mins ago
WASHINGTON – The United States has positioned more missile defenses around Hawaii as a precaution against a possible North Korean launch across the Pacific, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday. "We do have some concerns if they were to launch a missile to the west in the direction of Hawaii," Gates said. Gates told reporters at the Pentagon he has sent the military's ground-based mobile missile system to Hawaii, and positioned a radar system nearby. Together the systems theoretically could detect and shoot down a North Korean missile if it came to that. "Without telegraphing what we will do, I would just say ... we are in a good position, should it become necessary, to protect Americans and American territory," Gates said. A Japanese newspaper reported Thursday that North Korea might fire its most advanced ballistic missile toward Hawaii around the Fourth of July holiday. A new missile launch — though not expected to reach U.S. territory — would be a brazen slap in the face of the international community, which punished North Korea with new U.N. sanctions for conducting a second nuclear test on May 25 in defiance of a U.N. ban. North Korea spurned the U.N. Security Council resolution with threats of war and pledges to expand its nuclear bomb-making program. The missile now being readied in the North is believed to be a Taepodong-2 with a range of up to 4,000 miles (6,500 kilometers), and would be launched from North Korea's Dongchang-ni site on the northwestern coast sometime around July 4, Independence Day in U.S., the Yomiuri newspaper said. It cited an analysis by Japan's Defense Ministry and intelligence gathered by U.S. reconnaissance satellites.

Probably just precautionary.
If NK starts actually fueling/prepping a missile, you'll see carrier battle groups heading that way - that'll be the sign that there's something more to this latest saber-rattling. I doubt NK wants to hit Hawaii. They want to take out something that really will hurt the US like San Fran or L.A. or Seattle. Much more prominent targets that will make the US look mortal and vulnerable to its enemies.

"AINT IT COOL!"...........john travolta "BROKEN ARROW"
this is gonna get REAL GOOD. even better than the "somali wally" pirates! i think obamas comment to n. korea.........."YER TESTING ME" i would not be surprised if an aegis class cruiser blows the lil feeker up about 60 seconds after launch is initiated! and then we surround the "n.korean mystery" ship off china and gently(?) steer it to closest port to inspect(of course finding weapons) and we bee-atch slap that lil kim il lil dong again. do ya really think hes gonna risk getting vaporized when he lobs some nukes into south korea? here we go with "RONNY RAY-GUN STAR WARS" yeeeeee-HAWWWWW! |

These launches always seem to end in failure. No big deal.

Of course, the traitor obama goes to the UN instead of having America stand up for what is right. The kock sucker has no balls and doesn't put America 1st... If he did, a carrier would have already been there after the 1st launches....

If we just gave him the smackdown he's begging for, it'd end this kind of behavior for a very long time and we could move on to other problems.

Once again, we have a matter of political will here, not one of military prowess. We have none of the former and plenty of the latter, not a good combination.

Would love to see that happen. Serve the idiot right but unfortunately kill a lot of innocent people who have no other choice.

Actually, we only need to send one ship (and it's probably already there). The USS Lake Erie. Threat eliminated.
