I think LeMonde is still bitter about cylcing in general and the tour in particular. Remember what happened back when he was supposed to be the man and then Bernard Hinault came back for another tour or two and Lemond had to just soldier for that guy.

Then he had that hunting accident. He could have had five or six tour wins had things played out differently.

+1
i lost some respect for him when he accused LA of doping. same thing with frankie A and his wife.

i too have often thought that the riders are just a step ahead of the testers. i think that is why that little piss ant pantani dropped out with a "stomach flu" after trying to put a hurt on lance. he knew that if he got tested again he would fail.

but until a rider is caught, i have to assume they are clean. look at how much LA has been tested. i bet there is not a rider out there that has been tested more. even outside of the tour, they have to give the vampires their location at all times, just in case they want blood.

the 2 riders that hurt me the most and i would have never thought doped were Tyler H and Landis.

Was not aware of his comments about Americans versus Europeans but it does not surprise me. He has blinders on much of the time IMHO. I posted my post due to its reference to the race and not this person, who I could care less about.

Lance has been under a microscope for years, even more so in france. For anyone to say that he has not been singled out, well they are living in a totally different world. I raced bikes years ago along with John Howard in the late 60's, so have been following the Tour for years. When I lived in Europe saw it many time and its truely a great race. Hope that the officials and spectators allow it to be a fair race this time.
blocked? you dont like to see how frenchie reads or makes an issue where there is not one? like he did above.

i raced too, not pro by any means, but i did my time around the south east. i have not been on my bike in years and i have not followed racing really since LA quit.
i still like roubaix, waiting to see hincapie win.

Like what? Is having one testicle an advantage? Sit better on the seat?

Chemo? No way that's an advantage. 2 of my sisters and a girlfriend (died) had to do that. Horrible.

I think at that point he was just trying to keep from dying, which is what they predicted would happen.

have you ever seen someone go thru chemo? my sister died from it! the ONLY advantage he got was the weight loss, thats not illegal. actually, i think he was taking EPO. he gave up everything for cycling, no else out there was willing to do that. if he did not have the training hours to back up results, i would agree that he was doping, but until proven guilty, he is clean as far as i am concerned.

Same here... Pretty much broke my heart for watching pro cycling. I just stopped watching. Haven't even bought the premium channels where cycling is featured (on our satellite system). Was a big fan of both riders. Remember Landis from "back in the day" when the goofy looking Amish kid would ride his bike to a mountain race, race in jeans, beat everyone, then ride home. Tyler Hamilton's tears of joy when he won the Olympic Time Trial gold, followed by the news that he was positive and the crazy excuses (unborn twin caused the "other" DNA in his blood? - something like that)...

Cycling needs to be clean, whatever it takes. It needs to be clean to pick up the sponsorship and fan base this great sport needs.

Sure wish I had Versus on our satellite TV. I'd be watching right now...

Yes, an advantage. He took a body that was not ideal for cycling, burned it down to nothing with poison and stress, then rebuilt it very carefully. I do not have the slightest doubt that the experience, physically and emotionally, made him into the greatest in the sport thus far.

Yes, I have seen chemotherapy victims go through it.

try justintv

Today was a fabulous stage, with lots of action.

Cancellara dropped as expected... And its still Contador and Lance. The other guy is just a place-holder.

Contador only picked up 20 secs on LA today.

Dont worry about LA, there's still what 2 more weeks.... we've got a long ride ahead of us.

What is the ideal body and for what type of cycling? Don't mean to be a jerk for saying this to you, but You much read too much or not know too much about cycling racing.

There is no ideal body IMO....We saw big guys champions....if we look at what we have now on TDF, there's a lot of small body jig in place...! Genetic and dope (I mean how to hidden it) play BIG .From Wiki...:
Physical advantages
At the top of his career, Miguel Indurain had a physiology that was not only superior when compared to average people, but also when compared to his fellow athletes. His blood circulation had the ability to circulate 7 litres of blood around his body per minute,[1] compared to the average amount of 3-4 litres of an ordinary person and the 5-6 litres of his fellow riders. His Cardiac Output is 50L a minute, a fit amateur cyclist's is about 25L a minute. Also, Indurain's lung capacity was 8 litres, compared to an average of 6 litres. In addition, Indurain's resting pulse was as low as 28 BPM, compared to a normal human's 60-80 bpm , which meant his heart would be less strained in the tough mountain stages.[2] His VO2 max was 88 ml/kg/min; in comparison, Lance Armstrong's was 82 ml/kg/min and Greg LeMond's was 92.5 ml/kg/min.

i hope you are wrong.

if hincappie ever comes up pos. i will burn my bike....well, not really, but it will make it easier to sell to finish my motor.

LA is showing he is a class act....so far. i hope he keeps it up even if he loses to contador. i would really like to see contador faulter and LA show his strength and win. LA has already shown how much smarter he is.
it is good tactics to have 2 very strong guys sitting in the top 3. it would have been bad if contador would have gotten the yellow, that shows he is out for himself and he is not very smart.

Why do you say that he's not smart? How do you measure how smart one is in cycle racing? I would really like to see race radio go away fot the rest of the tour and we shall see who can really read a race. A true champion like Merckx and Hinault still attack and win stages even when they are ahead. thay's only my stupid opinion.

Cycling is still a dark horse sport in America. Not many people understand it, or should I say understand it well and be able to see something on TV and realize what's going on. I think that's why they make those statements. It is still a go Lance, win Lance and Lance, the best ever thinking. The super domestique (sp?) are the really smart ones. They read races and make deals with other teams. I am not taking anything away from Lance Armstrong. How smart is he to purchased his rivals so they can be his mountain goats and chase down other with big motors. I know, its is not LA decision, but sure looks that way. Remember who they took from Kelme? anyway are they taking radios out on a certain stage? I forget which. Of course Johan is fighting to keep them. They are dead withour them.
