When I had a no-frills, no long-distance Verizon landline it was $32/month as well. That's why I went with Vonage.

I used Sykpe while in Germany for two weeks to call home. I spent less than 10 bucks and think I paid .06 per minute. The cell phone would have been 1.99 per minute plus roaming...

A friend of mine at work did some research and said Magic Jack was the worst kind of spyware there was... They practically own your PC... Haven't cheked myself because I am very happpy with Vonage.. Can't beat $25 a month for unlimited calls anywhere I care to call (even europe). Add a second line for a fax, $10 ? Not bad...

I like that it's a regular phone, not a computer based type of service... Cheap, super reliable, also on FIOS (good backbone, FIOS)...
