carrera 0-60 times

I've had someone question my car facts. I'm sure I read somewhere that a 3.2 911 Carrera was the fastest accelerating production car in its day. Anyone know where I can look it up?

A google search should spit out some numbers from a variety of sites.

I seriously doubt that the 3.2 carerra was the fastest 0-60 in the world though. What year(s) are you talking about?

Yeah, between the 930, 928, and 951, I doubt the 3.2 would be faster...

Depends on the year, there were some fast(for their day) 0-60 American cars in the 80s too.

The Buick Grand National springs immediately to mind.

The intercooled Grand Nationals were on the streets by then. They were pretty much untouchable wrt acceleration in their day.

Car and driver tested the 86 GN at 13.9 secs in the 1/4 mile and 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds.

In 1986 it was the fastest accelerating new production car available on US soil. In 1987 the Buick GNX took it a step further. They were much faster cars. They ran the 1/4 mile in 13.4 seconds and accelerated to 60mph in 4.7 seconds.

I wonder what could have beat the Carrera in 83 when it was intoduced though

I have (at home) the compilation of Road and Track Porsche articles from the 80s. There was a shootout between the 951 and the 911 on the autobahn. The 944 was faster up until around 100 or 120 IIRC, and then started pulling on the turbo suprisingly.

Yeah, the years from '84-89 saw lots of changes. They could be king one day and just another runner the next.

A 930 Turbo would have to be much faster i would think, but the 1983 928 was not that fast in acceleration. (mid 6's IIRC).

In 1983 the Buick T-Type Turbo (non-intercooled) was introduced, that ran a 0-60 time of 5.5 0-60 (going from memory)
