i've never owned a pickup truck. Sports cars, sedans, coupes, vans, wagons, and SUVs, but no pickup trucks. Closest I've come is a full size GMC Jimmy/Blazer. More like an SUV than pickup.
Brother told me I needed a pickup to tow stuff. After he loaded a tractor on a trailer and it ripped the rear bumper off his pickup truck, hitched the same trailer to the class 3 hitch on my Jeep Cherokee and towed the same tractor 30 miles out to the farm just fine. My nephew's 3 boys love pickup trucks. They are always wearing cowboy boots, cowboy hats, and the belts with a big buckle. I don't think any of them have ever knowingly been within 100 yds of a cow or horse. When I was 14 my best friend and I did a lot of free work for his Dad that ran cattle. My friend wore the typical cowboy getup of boots and felt cowboy hat. I wore my rubber wading boots and a pith helmet I had for working in my dad's large garden. My friend, his dad and all the ranch hands teased me for looking like an english sheep herder. I did notice the vet was also wearing rubber boots. After the day was done they had to spend a lot of time cleaning up and treating thier leather boots when I just had to hose my rubber boots off. Also I never slipped and fell like they did in the muddy pens. And their felt cowboy hats were always sweaty and stained. My pith helmet was much cooler and still looks brand new. In fact, I sewed a porsche logo patch on the front and still wear my pith helmet any time I will be out in the sun to keep my ears and neck from burning, ie. at an autocross or car show or example. Have even considered getting a pith helmet with a solar powered fan for those hot days with no wind. I don't even listen to country music. Guess I just don't fit into the country scene. |

Don't you watch any cooking shows, you are always supposed to use some red wine to deglaze the pan. I usually use chicken or beef broth.
Today on one cooking show they put most of a bottle in with water to cook the spaghetti. It made it all read. My grandmother ran out of yellow food coloring to put in her absolutely delicious home made chicken noodles one time and put red in instead. Nobody would eat red chicken and noodles. They tasted exactly the same. When Mom made grandma's chicken noodles, she made it the same except she didn't put the yellow food coloring in and they just weren't as good, even though again they tasted the same. |
I thought they put wine in stuff so it was less noticeable that the cook was taking a swig every so often....
|
There used to be a cooking show on called the Galloping Gourmet. He put wine in everything and drank it while cooking. By the end of the show he was obviously snockered. Julia Child always sounds like she is snockered so who could tell?
And Emril, wine?...I think he is BAM doing Bourbon shots off camera....BAM. |
Good Morning folks.
Golly icy roads are fun.  The roads were not bad except for a few short places. And I only came across one moron and on idiot. As you know a moron is the one going so slow that they are impeding all other traffic and will never have enough speed to get up a hill and the idiots that have a SUV and think they can go above the posted speed limit and they are above the laws of physics and traction because they have 4 wheel drive. I passed the moron going up a hill as they sat still just spinning their tires like crazy. She ran the red light and was crawling up the hill as I waited for the light. I just motored past her since I built up some speed before the hill. The idiot was in the far left lane which was solid ice but no traffic so he could haul ass. Hopefully when he crashes he does not crash into anyone else just the ditch or bridge abutment. The good news is the sun comes out today and all the ice goes away. |
I had to dodge a car that was skidding into the intersection while I was in the crosswalk. The streets were wet due to the light rain we're having. I love having 3500 lbs of steel and stupidity sliding at me while trying to walk to work (on a Monday morning, no less).
My jet lag should kick in this afternoon. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/sleep.gif |
That will get your Adrenalin pumping and keep you awake jet lag or no.

Good morning.
Don't know if I'm classified as a moron or idiot as I almost slipped and fell on my ass putting the trash out early this morning. Didn't get stuck at the bottom of the drive or crash and slide out into the street so I must be okay. |
It's terribly cold for...Mosquito Bite Monday!
http://thechive.files.wordpress.com/...pg?w=300&h=400 Yet she seems to have gotten bit twice. And they appear to be swollen, maybe it's an allergic reaction. Some nipple lube would help reduce the swelling. |

OKC was on our local news but I didn't see a white El Camino or Duck Dynasty pepperwagon so I figured you all (or as my grandmother would say, yins) were OK. 16* today so I guess I am done with shorts until spring. We were out for dinner Saturday when we had a light dusting of snow. The Eagle LS tires that came on the car are worthless in snow. As we were slipping and sliding trying to get on the main road my wife asked if I was going to spin us out. I replied with front drive it is difficult to spin out but that you will just plow straight off the road. She said that made her feel much better. I told her at least with front wheel drive you get to see what you are going to hit. Then, about 2 miles from the house a deer ran in front of us. The ABS on the car is noisy, sounds like bolts in a blender, but it is effective. I just kept thinking the deer better not slip and fall as it was quartering away from us. We ended up missing by at least two feet and I was glad there was only one. Jacob thinks that any car is stupid if it has front wheel drive so I picked him up from mom and dads with the truck. He was in the back doing a great Dukes of Hazzard Yee-Haw! at the top of his lungs as we are pitched sideways. |
Why did OKC make your news, just our weather?
I did not get out at all yesterday once the crappy weather moved in. The ice on the streets are melting like crazy. Right now everything is wet and messy. I will wait until later to run an errand then just go home. I want to avoid as much salt and magnesium chloride crap as possible. |
Yup, just because of the weather. It was just a short clip of people sliding around in the white stuff. I thought I might catch a glimpse of a pepperwagon doing the rally thing, but alas...

When I worked in SoCal it was dress shorts, polo and tennis shoes every day. Here I usually have a pair of boots in the car for just in case.
|
All summer I wear shorts. If is just too cold now. As soon as we get to 70 degree highs again the shorts come back out. Now I have to "get all dressed up and formal" in jeans.

I have attended the local PCA region Christmas parties since 1978. We did a gift exchange for years and swapped gifts and did the dirty Santa bit. It was getting tiring. For the last few years we have encouraged everyone to bring a gift for Toys for Tots. I always hated buying toys. I have no kids and my toys are nothing a child would really want. Last year we changed the charity. The Children's Center is a hospital and rehab center only for children.
https://www.tccokc.org/ They have a list on Amazon of needed toys and a wish list. Shopping made easy for geezers. I can get them something that the employees there recommend and need for their patients. We took a tour of the place last year. It is sad that the place has to exist but for kids with tragic injuries and life long disabilities it is place to recover and learn. I am so much happier to give them something than a Porsche Club member that can easily buy their own junk. I always overspend but that is what Christmas is about. It is hard to not keep adding one more thing to the order. |
