Rick, looking at the routes for your trip it looks like you are going through Dallas and on to El Paso. One thing to remember is even though you are never going across the border you will likely come across some border crossing check points. They are all over south Texas. Just a heads up.

A friend of mine recently drove down to El Paso from Dallas and he said his wife was freaking out because the big checkpoint ahead looked like they were crossing the border. She did not want to go to Mexico and he kept telling her they were still in the USA and they were not going across a border, it was just a check point. They were just waived through but some other cars were getting inspected.

Interesting, thank you Glen. I guess I better bone up on my rights to have a spoon or two in the car. Don't want any of that headache

Shouldn't be an issue in Texas if you've got your permit. I think if you don't have a gun in the car, they loan you one for your stay! ;)

If you were to deploy an M6A1 for fishing I would hope you are fishing for russian subs

No permits here, I don't want the paper trail. Beth had one but it is long expired. I doubt I will be searched, I'll either be in the Boxster or Mercedes, and you can see inside of both of them easily. Might have to open the trunk on the MB though

Most of the time they wave you through. Sometimes they ask where you are coming from and going to.

I got stopped only one time and I had the Cobra and they were curious about it. When moving to Ca I had my lunch inspected because I had packed a banana in it.

flipper35 12-22-2014 11:07 AM

Oh, you can let Beth do your makeup like your avatar, but the necklace is a no no.

Rick V 12-22-2014 11:12 AM

Stijn did my make up in that avatar but if you read the thread you already knew that. :)

flipper35 12-22-2014 11:20 AM

I knew that, but I figured it would be a long commute for the poor guy just to do your makeup. I thought Beth would be a good second choice. Now if he comes help you move, he can do a proper job for you. :)

He better come to visit, we have been discussing it for a while now. He wants to come here before I move and use my house as a base of operation to heckle the white house and generally cause trouble. Yeah I am not too keen on that idea

RKDinOKC 12-22-2014 11:32 AM

That's weird, just made one of my prolific posts and it done didn't show up.

RKDinOKC 12-22-2014 11:33 AM

Just got an email that I am supposed to go pickup my iPhone 6.
Won't be able to make it today, waiting for Mom's new nurse.

GH85Carrera 12-22-2014 12:14 PM

Yea, I figured it might be possible that maybe you just might bring a spoon on the trip, maybe. Just be cautious about it in that part of the country. They act like there might be a few illegal aliens in the area. That is pretty much a fact of life with the nice (not) secure borders we have.

You'll think I'm nuts, but I will be using heavy freshwater tackle. Spent a lot of time angling thus far in life, love the fight on the smallest tackle possible.

Problem is, idk wtf is in the water, perhaps I'll treat myself to a guide :)

Nothing wrong with that. My favorite fishing is going after trout with ultralight tackle, tiny braided line and a 4ft rod...

I have an M6A1 ready for duty...just unsure what the neighbors will think.

We talking about the tank, the plane or the LWRC piston spoon?

I'm fond of live bait for salt water.

porsche4life 12-22-2014 12:28 PM

Live bait is best for most fish in any water... I'm just too damned lazy to catch and deal with it...

Nice answer, I approve

Have friends and family that are fishing guides, all fresh water though.
Aunt and Uncle used to teach trout fishing, wrote books, and had a lodge just up river from yellowstone.

flipper35 12-22-2014 01:26 PM

Just because.
