You lost me.

I noticed that with the drought in CA, a few people in my neighborhood went to synthetic grass. I saw a display in Home Despot for some that looked and felt pretty good. Only small samples though. I guess I'll look into that a bit more next year and see if it makes sense for us.

Hey Sid, what's your experience with fake grass in AZ? Thanks.

Jim I'm a big fan of fake grass. Some looks way better than others. Check into a company that installs it and you'll find there are better lines than what HD carries. I've been on some fake turf football fields that looked extremely real and felt great when you walked on it.

I want to do our yard but I've been over ruled because of can get pretty hot if you have kids that want to play on it. I know some people that have it and love it, just hose it off a few times and year and that's it. It's pricey to put i!, but I hear the water companies in Cali put pretty big rebates on it too. As the boys get older, we'll to ably end up doing ours.

From what I have heard the fake grass is hard to get to light and harder to keep burning. It really give you a headache and is very psychotropic. That K2 stuff is bad news.

I knew California was different but I did not know they sold that at Home Depot!

My MiL's neighbor has some that is pretty nice and has help up well over the years. I have no idea what brand it is but it looks just like grass (without the weeds and clover and...) and sort of feels like grass. Been there for several years now. She lives in the SoCal low desert.

So you can put down artificial grass that looks and feels like grass, but it gets too hot to actually walk/play on?

Sounds like you need a sprinkler system to keep it cool.

Yea, if you just water it every afternoon it will stay cool.

I need to feel up the fake grass in my neighborhood during the middle of the afternoon. That'll give me a sense of whether the heat is an issue or not.

Why limit feeling up the neighbourhood fake things to just grass?

The thing about it getting too hot doesn't bother me much. When you look at how often anyone actually is on it barefoot or plays on it, probably less than once a week on average, we could always flip on the sprinklers to wet it down a bit. We would still be saving TONS of water by doing that. We already have the sprinklers in place, so not a big deal to run them for a few minutes.

Brilliant!

I think that I would also provide shade trees in strategic locations to help keep the turf cool. Our dog will be much happier if she has cool, shady spots for lounging around. Humans probably like that, too.

In El Centro we had a kiddie pool filled with sand and a soaker hose buried in it to keep the dog cool.

Just treat the grass like sand on a beach. Wear feets protection or run fast. AND beach towels.

Had a kiddie pool of water for my first golden. Thought she would really like it because when I picked her up she was laying in a pyrex cake pan full of water keeping cool on the breeder's front porch. However, she would only lay in it if I told her to, she would rather sit beside me. She was a great dog.
