Morning. Will leave it to each of you to decide if it is going to be good or not. It is my hope that no matter which way you decide it turns out to be a good one anyway.

Okay so I got a new doorbell. It was cheap but is functional. It is wireless and everything is battery operated. I got 3 ringers. The whole setup was about $20. Put a ringer at each end of the house and one in the garage so I can hear the doorbell even if the TV is turned up. Or since they are wireless and battery operated can take a ringer outside to the back yard if I am grilling and expecting company. The doorbell chime is different, but hey that's good. Now it doesn't sound like the doorbell is gong off when they have one on TV! It has a bunch of different chimes, but I think most are hokey.

Anyway, the button or transmitter looks like the cheap plastic that it is. I've taken it apart and soldered wires to the switch inside so it will operate from the wires to my existing doorbell button. And have mounted the transmitter and one of the ringers where the old doorbell was.

Am I weird for keeping the old standard button instead of just attaching the newer plastic looking junk by my front door?

Nope, that original doorbell button will last forever. Some cheap Chinese modern button might not last a year.

I still am waiting on the neat doorbell buttons like they have in TV shows that has a 30 FPS full HD color and infrared camera with sound built in. And the camera hole is so small no one will notice!

Monday is back.

It is almost strange driving the Elky and the speedometer needle is just dead steady, like a speedometer is supposed to be. I replaced the OEM speedo with the giant 55 and no trip odometer with a unit I got from EBAY, and had it "rebuilt" buy someone in California that evidently had no idea what he was doing. It has had a bounce to the needle for the last 200.000 miles or so. It finally started squalling like a banshee so I had to get it rebuilt again. I found a guy in Ohio that has a third generation speedometer shop. They have been in business since 1927. I doubt they rebuilt many speedometers in 1927 since cars were pretty new and basic back then.

They had to replace several parts, new bearings and repainted the face of it to get the gear selection correct for the 4 sped and automatic overdrive transmission I put in 10 years ago. I got it installed Saturday and it is wonderful. It is essentially a new speedometer. The set it to the mileage I told them. I think I gained about 50 miles in reality. That is an error of 0.00014285714 % and I will consider that close enough.

Feels good to have the Elky back to complete working order I'm sure. I used the Suquinox for a couple of months with the PS window inoperable. Finally got around to replacing the regulator and it was like having a new car again. Ok, not exactly but you know what I mean.

I tell you, having the Malibu and not having to do a THING for maintenance is nice. It's not even due for it's first oil change yet. When it is it's going to the dealer because it's free.

My wife asks on occasion when I might get a new car. Anything I want is just stupid expensive and will be just like a thousand or many thousands of other people have. It is a rare week that someone does not compliment the Elky or ask about it.

Cars are a hobby of mine. I can ALWAYS go to the garage and find a project to tinker on a car. The Porsche or the Elky always have some minor or sometimes major thing to fix.

I even remember thinking this weekend how neat it is to just go to the tool box and grab the weird tool and common tool and not have to go buy a tool. To have a nice garage with a heater so I could work in a t-shirt and not have to wear a cost, a bathroom just feet away. And get a frosty wheat pop from the fridge and rock out to Pandora on my laptop hooked to a nice set of speakers.

Having a lift is just a double bonus.

I can see that advantage of a new car and just letting someone else do the routine maintenance. My wife's Infinity has had nothing but routine maintenance with the exception of one light bulb, and two batteries since 2008. I hope the Macan does that good.

Hate that builders cheap out on garages. My Mom's Crown Vic wouldn't fit length wise in my garage AND the garage isn't really wide enough to park two cars in the two car garage so you can open the doors on both sides of the cars to get in and out. Just 3 ft longer and 3 ft wider would do it. Cheap skate builders.

Guess I really have a one car garage with a 2nd bay for bicycles and lawn care equipment.

morning all. Just had to download and print my w2 for work. I thought by law they had to mail them. Guess not.

They started the download thing where I work just this year. My bank has the 1099 available on line, but mail a copy as well.

They used to send a passworded PDF of our pay stub since everyone's pay is auto-deposited. Now they send a link that lets you view and download your stub.

It is not just the builders, it is the buyers of houses. They want larger houses and most people don't seem to mind parking outside. One of the first things we did was get a storage building built in the back yard for the lawn and garden crap. With no doubt the only reason I accepted our house was the oversize three car garage and bathroom. I just assumed there was a kitchen and bedrooms. My wife loves the ridiculous huge closet. The rest was just a place to live. I can open the giant doors on the Elky and not hit anything in the garage.

My brother in law helped with the manual labor of moving in. He was carrying something into the bedroom and saw the closet door open. He commented it looked like a nice big closet. I told him to go on in, and turn the corner. He laughed thinking I was kidding. It is a L shaped closet and the short part of the L is where you walk in. Turn left and it continues on for the length of the bathroom. It is just crazy big, but I am a guy.

When we bought this house we were looking for something the easiest to make so you could get a wheelchair in and out the front door, and around in the house. We only saw 2 houses that were "handicapped" and they were for handicapped children. The only thing we had to do with this house was install hinges on one of the bedrooms so the door would open a little bigger and put a few hand rails in one of the bathrooms.

My only regret is I let my brother I work for and my relator talk me out of a house in Nichols Hills. That is a upscale neighborhood in OKC. The house was really cheap for the area because there were a few slab cracks. I asked around and the worst pier job to fix the slab was about $10K at the time. It was 3000 sqft instead of the 1750 I have now that I got for the same price, $80K. The garage did not have a step into the house. The front door was one of those half steps. The driveway was coming up and needed redone so I figured I could redo the drive and the front walk and porch making it roll in. One of the neat things was the hallways were 6 ft wide and each of the 3 bedrooms had their own bath. And the baths were each big enough to be accessible. There was also a guest half bath or powder room as they call them. Every once in a while I would drive by the house. They did the pier thing and that was it and the house sold 7 years later for $320K. At that time my current house had gone to $120K. Still needs a new driveway poured today.

Don't understand people that leave their cars parked outside. Just one of their cars is typically worth more that all the stuff they keep in their garage.

The reason we bought our house is because of the garage. It already had cabinets and a huge, very well built workbench.

The shed was another plus as I didn't want to keep lawn equipment and whatnot in the garage. The only downside is there's no power in the shed. I usually just run a cord from the garage to power the light if I need it.

When I was doing the sprinkler system I ran power to the storage building. Just some lights and one outlet.
I paid the extra 50 bucks to have 8 foot roof and not 6 foot.

Have two friends that go at it on FB. The whole Trump thing keeps them fired up. One is super liberal and the other is super conservative. The weird thing is the liberal is a tea totaller and the conservative is usually drunk and stoned. Neither of them work and are not retired. I am happy to just watch and enjoy their interactions not getting involved.

There were two things that helped with the decision with our house. It was not near people and it has an attached garage for the daily drivers and a detached for the toy and lawn stuff. It is only 24'x24' but it works. Having a decent sized yard helps also.

I think I pulled a muscle in my calf at Friday's Muay Thai lesson. It isn't so bad to walk on today but it was sure sensitive to touch yesterday.

FB posts from me are rare. I look for funny stuff and ignore the political crap as much as possible.

One thing for sure is that there is no obinion one can post and not have someone else mad and offended. No doubt Mom, Apple Pies and the American flag are hot buttons of hate for some idiots. I play in PARF on occasions but it is not a place to spend much time. I have never understood the name calling. If that can't come up with an valid point, call the opposition names. I don't get it.
