When I got my 914 they said keep it below 4,000 for 600 miles, but vary the RPM, so long long road trips. I picked it on a Friday and brought it back Monday morning with 601 miles and a big grin on my face.

With the Macan they said the same, 2,000 miles and keep the revs below 4,000. It is easy with a 7 speed transmission.

With the El Camino, redline is 5,000 and I bet I have not hit 4,000 RPM more than twice in over 300,000 miles of driving it. It is totally breathless above 3,200 RPM. It has lots of torque down low so it is silly to run up the revs. It was weird breaking in the cam with the new engine. Sit in the driveway running it at 2,000 RPM for 20 minutes. That was about all.

Hope all y'all have a great weekend.

Is it April's Fools Day already? Or, by arrangements, does your shop mean to have a flatbed (and your Cayenne for all the parts) come pick it up? :p

RKDinOKC 12-15-2017 02:06 PM

Would have picked it up today, but called me too late to get a ride to downtown before they closed up shop.

Besides I want a chance to clean up the Garage so when it gets home it will feel loved.

GH85Carrera 12-15-2017 07:09 PM

So what, 2.5 years? Or just 2?

RKDinOKC 12-16-2017 04:14 AM

Mertnin

How long since I dropped it off or since they actually started working on it? Last time I drove it was to Mom's funeral in March of 2015, but didn't actually start pulling the motor until November.

In fairness was legally blind for a year until about 4 months ago and told him not to rush on it for that reason. Actually glad did not have it then. When blind, brother said I should sell it and not drive it at all. Now I am just blind in one eye 20/60 from with glasses. Doc says will prolly be summer before left eye is healed from the 2 surgeries before they do the cadillac thing. The weird part is I am left eye dominant so even though 20/20 in right eye, everything is still a little blurry. It's not too bad, but can see much better if close left eye and blink a couple times.

The really good thing is that he is going thru everything in/on the car to make sure it is 100% in great shape. The only thing left now is the radio which hasn't worked right since I first got the car. Not fixing it yet. Can't decide if it would be better to go with stock, Porsche classic with bluetooth, or aftermarket with all the CarPlay bells and whistles. The response from the 928 forum is 33.3% for each option and a couple of guys that want to buy my dead head unit.

GH85Carrera 12-16-2017 06:25 AM

Replace the stereo with something that fits in place with zero modifications to the dash or the wiring. Keep the old radio for when you ever sell the car. That radio can be important to some future owner.

The Porsche club Christmas dinner is tonight. 20 years ago when we started using the sheriffs track we were making a ton of money. We gave over 27 Grand to charity, but we also paid for 1/2 the Christmas dinner. Since we are lucky to break even and lost money on the last autocross our check book balance has dropped. It was a tight vote but the board decided that everyone will pay the full ticket this year. Porsche drivers should be able to afford a decent meal at a nice restaurant. I saw no reason to cash in our CD to help pay for a Porsche owners dinner.

RKDinOKC 12-16-2017 10:46 AM

So, get the original stereo all working (or similar if can't repair), THEN put in more up-to-date head unit.

Boo!

RKDinOKC 12-16-2017 01:35 PM

Ahhhhh!

Welcome back. Nice rack!

I watched the original 1956 Godzilla today. I remembered the crappy special effects, but nothing much about the “plot” except Godzilla smashing Tokyo. I had forgotten (spoiler alert) they killed him. I recorded son of Godzilla so I will watch it next.

RKDinOKC 12-16-2017 06:10 PM

Oh my

Jim Richards 12-16-2017 06:34 PM

Smashing Tokyo was cool. And thanks for providing the support, Jeff. We'd all hate to see this thread sagging.

RKDinOKC 12-16-2017 06:47 PM

On nooo...There goes Tokyo...Godzilla

GH85Carrera 12-16-2017 07:14 PM

Well, son of Godzilla has the worst special effects I have ever seen in a movie. And baby Godzilla is funny it is so bad. The sharknado movies are like a National Geographic documentary in comparison.

RKDinOKC 12-17-2017 12:51 AM

They are so cute when young! Then hit in their teens, and start tearing everything up.

GH85Carrera 12-17-2017 06:46 AM

Wow golly gee we are having fun. We went for our quarterly grocery store run. Part of that is looking for some anise extract. They did not have any so now we stopped at the Super Target. Since we are in the Elky, I have to stay in the car with the groceries. Darn, I missed out on the Target experience. I am really bummed. Yea, that’s the ticket. Sure, really bummed out. Yep.

RKDinOKC 12-17-2017 09:58 AM

Ain't never heard of no anise extract. Is that something mixed with toothpaste to make a better nipple lube?

GH85Carrera 12-17-2017 06:21 PM

Stijn!!

Don’t know what it tastes like. It smells like pure alcohol and it is used in a recipe that my wife wanted to make. It called pepper nuts, basically little bitty tiny cookies about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch across.

This is what they look like.
