Great news for Gage. I hope he lives a long and happy life. Dads 84 so Lord only knows if he will survive the treatment.

RKDinOKC 12-14-2017 08:23 AM

The main problem Gage had was the nauseousness and not being able to keep food down right after a round of treatment. A couple of times he was hospitalized for a couple of days to get feed thru IV.

if that happens we are screwed cause he won't eat now.

They found Gage's cancer because of the nausea, not eating, and he was skinny, so maybe your Dad is not that bad and the not eating is just a symptom?

My Mom didn't eat much at all, but she did drink Ensure drinks. Don't understand the elderly seemed to like the chocolate, but the rep at the store didn't stock more chocolate than anything else. Talked to the rep about it and she was completely clueless.

Main problem I had with Mom was my siblings getting involved in her dental stuff because they had the same dentist. Mom lost her partial on the same day she had a teeth cleaning. I told the dentist to get her another one made asap. My SIL visted the same dentist the next day, heard about the partial blamed it on the hygenist and put a stop on the partial being replaced until the responsible party was found to pay for it. And it wasn't like MOM or the SIL didn't have the money either. Anyway it took 3 months to get the issue resolved and a new partial made. By then Mom had forgotten about it and because of her dementia just couldn't keep it in her mouth and ended up breaking it. She couldn't chew solid food without the partial. SIL's sticking her nose in what wasn't her business put Mom on basically a liquid diet for the rest of her life. What's worse is SIL isn't around enough to care or even see what she did, it was only about the $600 cost of the partial which didn't have a thing to do with SILs money. That dentist also had no right or reason to listen to anyone but me even if she new they were my siblings. But put a stop on the partical anyway. I no longer see that dentist.

Had more of a problem trying to maintain Mom's quality of life dealing with my siblings than with her or her doctors. Siblings were stupid (Ignorant means you just don't know any better, Stupid means you don't learn) they would NOT listen to anything I said despite me being named the Medical right of attorney in Mom's living will. And it was created before Mom's problems ever started. Those siblings don't like me very much because I wouldn't let them do what they wanted to do that would have been bad for Mom. Like getting rid of all the stuff Mom accumulated THEY decided she didn't need or wouldn't use.

Welp, 5th time was the charm. The project set up properly and now I get the fun of finding all the targets and reading them by zooming into the image, and click dead in the center of the target. Trying to get the error residuals down to a 1/10 of a foot.

Then we get to run the rest of the program. At least it is moving along now.

David, the lack of eating is what really hurts so many people. The body really needs some regular nutrition. It is a rapid downhill spiral once they quit wanting to eat. I wish I had some magic answer for you.

Mom was drinking the Ensure and more importantly was NOT losing any weight!

At one point my brother went shopping for me and bought another brand like insure. It was that glucose stuff and had less sugar. It was supposedly nutrition drink for diabetics. It made Mom start craving sugar and she would eat a complete package of cookies in a day and started having high blood sugar until I got her back on Ensure and her cookie cravings calmed back down.

Had to test the different flavors as well. They got a bunch. She claimed she liked strawberry, but wouldn't drink very much of it. The chocolate she would polish off in one sitting. Kept a few strawberry for "dessert" treats and pour some in a small glass. She liked that. Everyone enjoys treats, that's why I kept the cookies around.

She did the same thing with pudding and fruit cups. Claimed to want pudding but would only eat a couple of bites. She would howeve, finish off an entire fruit cup. Both served with cookies of course!

Morning all. I now have my compressed tiff format 5.5 GB image of the river bottom. Now I have to be sure it matches his survey points.

Back to work!

Hey, at least you are busy in a good way.

Our server for the phone system is dying. When we put it in years ago we could not virtualize it. Now, many major updates later we can. Or could. We did not pay the SA this year and the vendor forgot to tell us when it was time to renew. So, we can't apply our license to the virtual unit without the SA and they won't give us the root password so we can migrate it directly through VM. Looks like we are going to a different system entirely since this brand was bough out a while back and is no longer in production. It actually has been pretty good until the server has decided it likes to reboot now and then. A VM migration would have solved any hardware issues.

Holy organic fertilizer batman are they expensive. We still have to support 55 analog lines. :(

Oh, good morning all. At least it is Friday.

Porsche-poor 12-15-2017 06:26 AM

FRIDAY!!!!!! TGIO!!!!!

morning all. 8 more hours then the weekend!!!!!

RKDinOKC 12-15-2017 06:26 AM

Fry Mertnin.

Our phone system is Mitel. Have an IP phone here at my house that worked as my old office extension. Network consultant made changes to our Pix firewall settings. Now can no longer access the Pix and IP phone no worky. Boss says going to fix both, but never have. Good thing my extension forwards to my iPhone.

It was really annoying for a while as all the company pages came over that speaker phone. Every time someone made changes to the phone system I started getting the pages again.

It has been my opinion that our phone system is fine, it's just no body knows how to manage it. Especially those that are making changes. They can't even get it to export users and their extensions to put in our web phone directory.

flipper35 12-15-2017 08:04 AM

Mitel is one of the systems we are looking at. There aren't many that allow you to drop all the analog stuff on any more.

We had an Allworx system in the past and it was actually pretty easy to work with but the analog gateways used with it failed every couple weeks. It was so bad we had two spares on hand as they couldn't replace them fast enough. The IP side was nice though.

It sounds like they should be called Noworks not Allworks.

We had a decent phone system at the last place. Only 7 handsets makes it easy. The idiot owner threw away all the handsets. Right into the dumpster. No doubt he could have sold them, but he is an idiot doing idiot things.

Gaaaa. I hate the stupid limits Photoshop put on tiff files. It will open the file, but it will no save it. I have one last try. I am lowering the resolution to 1/4 foot pixel which is what the customer ordered, and cutting it right to the edge of his are of interest. I wanted to give him a higher resolution and a little oversize to be sure everything is covered. That put is over the 4 GB limit for Photoshop. The mapping programs don't care. They can make a 12 GB tiff file and open and close it easily.

Photoshop 2018 all updated and fresh, nope, not gonna do it. :(

RKDinOKC 12-15-2017 08:59 AM

Understood when they had a 2GB size limit back when 32bit os only allowed 2GB files. But with 64 bits Macs go to 8 exobytes on both the OS and the disk formating.

Windows Fat32 disk format is where they get the 4GB limit. There is an extendedFAT that goes higher.

Photoshop itself probably has the 32 bit fat32 4GB limit. I run photoshop in 32bit so my extensions/plug-ins still work.

Actually only have one plug-in that requires 32bit. It is from Kodak and does a really good job of resurrecting colors in scans of old faded slides, negatives, and photographs.

RKDinOKC 12-15-2017 09:48 AM

Oh my.
We have a new consultant we are providing MS Publisher for.
They had me give her an Office365 license for it.
The 365 license that includes publisher is $20 per month.
A copy of Publisher costs $109.
Hope this consultant will be finished in 5 months.
We never seem to kill consultants accounts though.

GH85Carrera 12-15-2017 10:01 AM

I have no idea why Photoshop has the stupid limit. My system is from the get go a Win 10 Professional 64 bit system. It is formatted in NFTS and can handle large files no sweat. It has 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD as the boot drive.

I painfully remember the bad old days of my Windows 95 computer. I am sure it had like 4 MB of RAM and a 4 or 5 gig hard drive. It would take it one hour if I clicked save on a 1 GB file. Now I open, edit do whatever and it just is virtually instant. The save of the just under 4 GB file was 5 minutes across my local network.

RKDinOKC 12-15-2017 10:43 AM

On the licensing money expenses I am just keeping my head down and doing what I am told.

It is difficult for me. Especially when I see anyone getting a computer to do their work gets a full 365 license with Office365 that lets them download All the office apps. Out of 300 users with full licenses only 200 have installed office, and then just to get Outlook. We only had 20 copes of Office licensed when this Office365 stuff started. That means we have at least 100 users costing us $20/mo each that could be costing only $3.70 each for just a mailbox and access to all the online versions of the office apps including web based Outlook. That's $1630 a month. And that doesn't include the other 150 license that need to be reassigned as to how people are actually using them.

That also does not include the 330 $4/mo web mail accounts and the 30 computer kiosks we put around our shop for people to keep track of their training and vacation time/benefits that nobody actually uses. Employees just ask their supervisors like they always have.

No waves or ripples starting from here, just do what I'm told. Justifies my Job if I was actually getting paid as an email administrator.

Porsche-poor 12-15-2017 10:46 AM

good plan

RKDinOKC 12-15-2017 11:25 AM

Yep, but still bothers me wasting money when I am paid $15K under the average for my job description in my geographic locality. $1600 a month would more than pay for that wage deficit.

Porsche-poor 12-15-2017 12:09 PM

I think the benefit of working from home is huge. but you could always submit an unsigned note to the boss.

RKDinOKC 12-15-2017 12:39 PM

My brother is the chairman of the board and he doesn't care. He is the one that told me to just keep my head down and do what I am told. Something about it's not what I say or how I say it but I make people feel stupid.

Just got called to make arrangements to pick up the 928 Monday!!!

Going to have to re-learn how to drive a stick. Told me need to keep it under 4000 rpm for a while. When I got the boxsterS new it said to keep it under 4000 rpm for 2000 miles.
